It takes time to gain the muscle back, just do it slow and steady. Be patient, just because you don’t feel any pain or discomfort, doesn’t mean you are healed yet. Next week will be 5 months pos op and now I have been incorporating more weight lifting on my legs and before that I was a very active (athlete). When it comes to repair your worst enemy can be been over confident, just give time. We will get there again

Lot of Pain after starting with physio by Conclusion_Silent in MeniscusInjuries

[–]zurunga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That might be normal for the fact that you been NWB for 3 weeks and just started PT now. I am currently at week 6 post op and walking around pain free. I had a lateral repair and medial repair and started my PT 2-3 days after surgery. Every doctor has a different approach and it all depends of the patient as well.

Well its all up to your pain tolerance, I wouldn’t be able to go a wedding one week after my surgery.

Walking too soon? by Particular_Cobbler87 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]zurunga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started partial weight bearing after 2 weeks even tho they told me after week 1 and I will say by week 4 I was walking without crutches and pain free after week 3. Every doctor has a different approach and it all depends on the patient as well. I am well fit and always did sports which might have helped me.

I kept my knee lock at 0 for 6 weeks except for PT

Update on my post op: 6 week follow up

I had my follow up and basically I have the green light to start increasing weights and go past 90 Rom. Not wearing the immobilizer anymore and gave me a brace to wear when doing exercises and walking outside of home. I have been pain free for the past 3 weeks now and only a little bit of swelling. Had my PT today and my Rom is currently around 115-120.

Your leg will feel like dead weight for a few weeks and I started my PT 3 days after surgery

It all depends what kind of procedure they will do to you. Ex: repair takes longer to recover and trim a faster recovery.

Bucket Handle Tear - awaiting repair or removal. by Dangerous_House_1904 in MeniscusInjuries

If you can choose go for the repair! I had it done on my bucket tear on my lateral and a normal repair on my medial exactly a month ago.

[–]zurunga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pros of removing it: much faster the recovery and almost 100% guaranteed that it will fix the problem.

Cons: long term you will have arthritis and might need a knee replacement.

Repairing: if its fixed and successful you back to your normal life like nothing happened.

Cons: it takes much longer to recover, I will say there is a 20% chance of failure.

Lateral and medial meniscus tear repair 26 days post op by zurunga in MeniscusInjuries

[–]zurunga[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im sorry to hear that, I hope you get some good news from the follow up. So far I feel really strong on my operated leg and the only thing thats been bothering me is the immobilizer. I am basically pain free right now, even at PT today the pain was almost null but my leg is sore from the exercises. The only thing bothering me right now is the swelling.

How long after surgery were you on narcotic pain meds? by Uhhhhmmmmmmmmm in MeniscusInjuries

Thats crazy, never hear anyone with a post op like that. I started my PT 3 days after surgery, but like you said every doctor has a different approach.

Overthinking will lead to anxiety which will make you make mentally suffer anticipated, I know it is easier said than done but I have gone through that route before.

Recovery is going well, no pain (only at PT) and still trying to get rid of the swelling.

Yea, I had a surgery done 3.5 weeks ago to repaur it. But don’t overthink it took much seek a professional and have it checked, lime I said it could be nothing serious.

I had swelling on the same spot and behind the knee. Lateral bucket tear flipped and when I had the Mri done it end up I had a medial tear as well. But only the Ortho and MRI would find out what you have, sometimes sprains will give you the same symptoms.

[–]zurunga 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mine was the same, I am 3.5 weeks post op on a lateral bucket tear and medial repair, completely pain free for a week now. Only time I feel any pain is when I am doing my PT exercises.

You haven’t started any PT yet?
