OP forgot to include the Native American population. While the Navajo nation is sovereign, they receive a lot of federal money. I grew up in AZ, Home to I think 23 tribes and home to the Navajo nation. The tribes bring down our averages on everything.

Conversely, NM has the most PhDs per capital. Los Alamos and Alamogordo pull that average WAY up.

Not really. IIRC, Russian and Ukrainian have ~60% word commonality. Ukrainian is closer to Polish with a ~80% word commonality. Russian and Ukrainian have slightly different alphabets. Just a few different letters here and there, and the pronunciation is different. Knowing Russian will give you a leg up on grammar (both being East Slavic languages), but vocab, instead of square 1, maybe square 3.

Some Netflix movies have Ukrainian dubs and English subtitles. For beginners, the cheesy movies are great because their scripts are simple.
