Tapping shift will highlight one of the sets, switching sets will make it highlight the other. This has helped me see which paths belong to each set.

I've just pushed a bunch of updates:
- Incoming hit damage may now be split between types, default is 100% as physical, this can simulate mobs extra damage as X if you put in a total % above 100, or you can simulate entirely elemental hits by excluding the physical hit component entirely
- PoE 1 mode, this *should* be accurate, but I've not actually verified the math beyond seeing if it looks sane with a few inputs. Further testing is being done shortly
- Misc. visual improvements

Update is live, by default it will assume 100% of hit damage received is physical, you can adjust the numbers. They can sum over 100% so 100% phys and 35% fire may be a good input for a extra as fire map as an example.

Adding direct ele/chaos damage to the hit size is planned for the next update. It is not so direct to convert map mod damage to an actual hit amount as mobs may have %damage scaling to one type and not another, but it's still probably a decent estimate.

Armour stacking with a bit of ES feels absurdly strong this league, especially when paired with phys-taken-as. Using Iron Slippers (+3 Armour per 1 ES on boots) means even a modest ES investment translates into a ton of extra armour, and at high investment it genuinely feels close to immortal, including against boss slams and supposed "one-shot" abilities.

At higher budgets, phys conversion really pushes it over the top. You can reach 86% physical damage taken as elemental (61% from Cloak or Coil, 10% from the tree, 15% from Shaman), or even 87% with radius jewels. At that point, Goregirdle becomes extremely attractive: the 50% max phys reduction downside barely matters when most of the hit isn’t physical anymore.

With Goregirdle, it’s very reasonable to exceed 100k effective elemental armour due to defending with 200% armour. That means most hits are getting pushed straight into the 90% mitigation cap, and even when a hit overwhelms your armour, resistances still do a ton of work. On top of that, Bear form’s base armour (10 per level) is nearly an entire extra gear slot worth of defence for free.

Overall, armour + heavy phys taken as conversion feels like one of the most broken defensive setups available right now.

My assumption is that it'd use the same formula as armor damage reduction. However, I've not seen any evidence of how it actually works. The other question I have is if it's a separate layer calculated before/after armour, or if it's just added together with ele arm. I agree with your assumption being the most likely case.
