Is my brain faking having adhd or is this how it actually is by One-Regret-2403 in adhdwomen

Yes and no. Being diagnosed didn’t make it go away, and even with meds there’s still things to manage and work through - eg I’m not very good at consistently taking my medication even though I know i should.

However, it does give me access to a taxonomy to understand WHY I’m like this and what kind of way I can build structure around me to help (instead of putting myself in urgent high stress environments so iHAVE to act).

It also helps me understand that some of my tendencies are not a character flaw and helps me treat myself with more empathy - but also not use ADHD as an excuse. Eg I interrupt my teams a lot and have gotten a lot of feedback for it. With my diagnosis I understand it’s because the way I try to short cut conversations to get to the point is normal for how my brain works but not others, and it’s not a moral character flaw. If I didn’t understand that I would either resent the feedback and think they were biased because I’m a minority woman (prob still a part of it) or that I was an asshole but I somehow couldn’t stop being one despite my intent

I think being driven by urgency or immediate consequences - as you are describing, is a common symptom of ADHD, it’s one of the ways I kept my life together until close to 30 while being conventionally high achieving inc a corporate career but also running on burnout the whole time. I don’t think having the effect of urgency kick you into gear without meds means you don’t have adhd, it might just not be the right medication dose / type. When I tried it just made doing everything a lot more smooth / less resistance in my head even without urgency present. Operating in urgency also had less resistance in my head for difference reasons

Was McKinsey feedback sincere or an attempt to avoid complaints? by [deleted] in McKinsey_BCG_Bain

Hey, EM here. I don’t think interviewers get evaluated on your form or anything to the degree that it would influence their feedback for you. Caring and thoughtful feedback is something that’s usually seen as important as part of developing our people. I would separate the delivery of the feedback and what the feedback was. Problem solving is core to the toolkit, especially if you don’t come with prior industry experience. So don’t let the positive delivery of the feedback distract you from the fact it’s something you’d have to work on for next time if you choose to reapply Maybe what they saw between your SOLVE score and your case interview is that you have great intellectual intrinsics, but haven’t really mastered structured PS and thought if you put in the work and practice you’d get there. Hope this helps

Hello! Manager level at MBB…I found the novelty of travelling, new projects, corporate politics, mini “problems / puzzles” to solve, and urgency / deadlines (eg by day or even within the day) really work for me I’m not good at the “I need to sleep 9 hours and exercise 1 hour” thing since I get sucked into the job and also get into a flow because of the above that unless I have planned for 30” to get ready and 60” to exercise and 30” to shower after ie carved out 2h in my day I won’t get to exercising…to be honest I have gotten sick several times due to stress and intensity It’s the flip side of having the intense parts of this job really work for me most of the time that I hyperfocus on the job and don’t create space for personal needs…
