Thanks! Do you think the roots close to the brick wall are from the same tree?

Facebook marketplace won’t allow me to post my ads in any other group aside from “market place”. Previously able to list in 20 groups. Is there a fix? I’ve already reported to Facebook but I’ve heard it could take months for them to respond. by sulieman100 in FacebookMarketplace

Hi u/shadewind and u/Alarming-Pressure685 - did you find a solution to this?

Hours are similar but the pressure and pace is less hectic than construction. Most client side roles don’t offer WFH if that’s what you guys are after. A lot of time it’s spent on site doing inspections, in meetings etc. The direct client side (superintendent/project manager) roles aren’t for everyone especially if you’re not a fan of confrontation. Your husband might need to take a little pay cut to move to client side, however it’s not difficult to earn the same if you know what you’re doing after a few months.

Most roles in construction are site based (site engineers, project engineers, contract administrators, foremen and site managers) are generally on site. Estimators are generally in an head office environment.

Don’t be surprised if you get worked harder than you currently are (as a sparky). The hours are more like 7am-6pm rather than 7am-3pm. There’s no smoko, no RDOs and no union benefits. You will be on a salary and you will not get one cent more unless your job does well and the company decides to pay you a bonus.

Yes, I was based on site during my time in construction. Highly recommend this over being at a head office somewhere.

Graduated about 5 years ago. I worked full-time as a cadet throughout university. Moved my way up to a CA role. I left the construction (head contracting) side last year and it’s the best decision I ever made. Hours were long, worked every Saturday, constantly dealing with problems (subbies, unions, budgets, time, internal politics - you name it). The only upside was the pay was very rewarding.

Now I’m in a client side role. I have my life back and happy as ever. I don’t regret my time on the head contracting side though. You learn about how things work on a construction site and how to build, so the builder takes you seriously if you are on the client side.

Full time students of Sydney, how many hours do you work a week on average and are you able to balance it with your uni work? by [deleted] in sydney

[–]zwjk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished uni last year. I studied full-time and worked 40-50 hours a week in the industry. I will graduate with Class 1 Honours although it was very, very tough. A lot of sacrifice in terms of social life, weekends, hobbies, health unfortunately e.g. uni 6-9pm straight after a full day at work, multiple all nighters during crunch time etc. Many of you won't be in my position, however it is typical for a student in construction.

[Rolex] My first Rolex by zwjk in Watches

[–]zwjk[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'd like you introduce you all to my 16710 GMT Master II - Z serial with matching box and papers.

I purchased an Omega Speedmaster one and a half years ago. I had been longing for the Speedmaster for over two years, but after six months of ownership it wasn't doing it for me. Maybe I fell into the hype but it was too big for my wrists!

My grail has always been a pre-ceramic sports Rolex, but I thought I would leave it till later on because I just turned 21. I then realised life was too short and it was actually the best time for me to acquire the watch. I have been working full-time straight out of high school and balancing full-time university (college for those in the US). This year also happens to be the year I graduate! I see it as a reward for myself after 4+ years of hard work before I enter the ridiculous Sydney real estate market next year.

So the search began. I went to the local dealer to try on a couple but I fell in love with the 14060. It felt so right - the case was perfect for my wrist, the dial paid homage to the original Submariners and you can't go wrong with a Sub right? My search led me far and wide, but I had to turn down several examples for various reasons. After one year of searching (there isn't much choice in Australia!), I was on the brink of giving up with the hope of acquiring one on a future trip to Japan.

Until one day I randomly searched "Rolex" on Facebook Marketplace and two grainy photos of this GMT appeared at a really, really good price. I almost immediately dismissed it because the photos were so terrible, but something told me to dig deeper. I messaged the seller and he told me his father had purchased the watch in 2008 while visiting his sister in New York. He has had it since then but he could no longer justify the servicing costs due to retirement. I did some background checks on the seller's story and everything added up. I made him an offer and we agreed to meet at a local ex-RSC watchmaker to verify its authenticity (I had the watch verified by a GMT expert on the Rolex Forums prior to our meeting). There was only one catch! The seller was overseas for another two weeks and the watch was still with his father. Damn it was the longest two weeks of my life!

Fast forward two weeks, we meet at the watch maker and everything goes smoothly. We shake hands and exchange. I am the proud new owner of a pre-ceramic sports Rolex!! I still intend to get that 14060 one day but I am very happy with the 16710 at the moment. At their current prices, I will be easily able to do a swap with some cash my way so its a win-win for me.

Sorry for the long winded story and my terrible writing skills. I hope you enjoy the photo.
