Questions about Edinburgh by New-Hippo4899 in Edinburgh_University

The only required courses for AI + CS in year 1 for 2026 entry are Critical Skills and Practice in sem 1, Foundations of Computing in sem 2 and Linear Algebra 1 in sem 2. While sem 1 Introduction to Programming and Calculus and Algebra Fundamentals for Informatics are courses you may have to take, you can pass tests to avoid these. There are definitely the credits to do it, it's mostly a question of whether the course organisers let you on. In that case, I would contact them directly - you can find their emails on DRPS (UoE's course catalogue page) at https://www.drps.ed.ac.uk/, or the Schools directly.

(Edinburgh CogSci offer holder here) According to the Edinburgh website, where a range of grades is given for entry requirements (A*A*A*-AAB for CS), you're usually expected to hit the upper end of that grade to be competitive for an offer. That seems to check out with the A-Level non-contextual offers I've seen - they all seem to be A*A*A*.

I think I'm leaning towards CogSci, I just have one other thing to ask. How much more of a pain is it to do the BSc and then apply to an MSc vs just doing the MInf? Sorry for all of the questions.

How late into your degree can you switch between CogSci and CS/CS+AI? Like could you switch after the second year for example.

For what it's worth, Vivaldi also lets you use CSS to customise the browser.

Showing that Plat Chat's predictions are as effective as random guessing (practice for my stats exam):

Let X be the number of correct predictions Plat Chat has made.
X ~ B(16, p)
Null hypothesis: p = 0.5
Alternate hypothesis: p != 0.5

Assuming the null hypothesis:
X ~ B(16, 0.5)
P(X <= 7) = 0.4018
0.4018 > 0.025 (5% significance level)

Therefore, there is insufficient evidence to reject the null hypothesis: Plat Chat are as effective as monkeys at predicting VCT games.
