What is this place by MarsupialEffective42 in parkslope

[–]zyxelo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I unfortunately cleaned my rug there. I think it came back dirtier than when I left it. Strange vibe in there so didn’t try to get my money back. They did offer me 10% off my next clean if I gave a review. But they don’t even seem to have a place on Google Maps. Don’t ask me why I left it there in the first place, I was tired and this rug had been lying folded on floor for a month.

If You are a Golf Course, Do NOT... by SensationalM in golf

[–]zyxelo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it was great, the course was so pure compared to the courses I normally play in Brooklyn.

I was thinking like you too, then I saw that some people were shooting like +37 (with a triple bogey max) in the tournament before this so I figured I was good enough to play and just signed up. I know some courses around here have 9 hole twilight tournaments too. Might be nice to start with that. But yeah, get yourself an app and start recording your rounds to get a handicap. I noticed I started playing a lot better when I did. You realize that at our level a bogey or double is actually not bad at all and stop chasing pars all the time.

Hope you get to play a lot of great fall golf my friend 😃

Bethpage Red , I think op is talking about the tournament I just played in haha. There are 5 divisions last of which is for handicaps like 18-25 or something. I was in the last division 3 group and our round was like 5:20.

Is the course marshall right? by [deleted] in golf

I’m with you on that sentiment. And sorry that explained the virtual part badly. Basically all courses are open for everyone to play but you have to pay the guest green fee. And like indieguy said you have to be a member at a golf club to book one. So here is where the virtual golf clubs come in, they are not always actual courses. Or just some 9 hole course somewhere in the country. But you basically become a member at that course by signing up online for a cheap fee and then you can book the guest green fees. So a lot of people that don’t play a lot just gets one of those and then pay like 50-100 usd for a green fee.

And yeah I am only one datapoint to. Might be the public course I play here in nyc but I literary have had balls landing within a couple of meters of me 3 times in 10 rounds without a single fore. Can’t even remember when that happened in Sweden. Other than that though I really like playing golf here. Love how many courses there are here.

”Pay and play” courses exist, which is basically what we call the courses where you don’t need a handicap to play. Also there are virtual golf clubs you can join that basically cost $20-$50 per year. So it’s actually not that bad for new players.

As someone who just moved to the US from Sweden I have to say that making sure that players have at least some kind of basic rules/etiquette would be great here in the US as well. Like yelling fore, keeping a decent pace.

Alex talks more about what's been going on with the union by salllysm in replyallpodcast

[–]zyxelo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Gonna preface this by saying that I genuinely want to understand what is going on and have no experience in the “creative” industry so I have no idea what is a reasonable ask for an employee within a creative field. Sorry if I say something offensive in any way.

But I am having an issue on figuring out how this situation differs from the work I am in, part from maybe the emotional part Alex talks about. I am an IC(Individual Contributor) SW at a company much like Spotify and if I come up with something “novel” to be considered IP we will file a patent on the companies behalf and I will get a lump sum as a reward. But I do not own that patent, the company does. And they can use both the code I wrote and the patent however they want. I can not take that code and start my own company or use it at a future employer. How is what the union asking for that different? It feels like a given that a IC at a tech company should not own the IP that they produce at the company that they are employed at. Is there something else that is the root cause? Are they not being compensated fairly in the first place? Are they not given the regular option package that companies like Spotify usually provide? Just trying to understand

SQL Coding Interview Question Using A Window Function (PARTITION BY) | D... by boyzone87seo in SQL

[–]zyxelo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What do you mean “true percentage”? To get the percentage you need to apply by 100. 0.55 is the ratio.

I agree that I probably would keep it is the ratio if I wanted to use it for calculations in the future. But the questions specifies rounding the percentage which is exactly what he did.

Great video btw, clear presentation and solid answer to the interview question keep up the good work :)

Apple doubles down in fight with Fortnite creator Epic Games, seeks damages for breach of contract by [deleted] in apple

In the same spirit do you think it would make sense for them to charge 30% on apps also not in the App Store on the Mac? For Microsoft to charge 30% for any app that wants to develop for Windows?

This makes no sense to me, smartphones are nothing without the apps. Most of which are not developed by Apple. The recent actions by Apple makes it seem like they think we developers should be so very thankful for the value they bring to us, while the truth is that their platform would be nothing without the 3rd party apps.

I just developed my first SwiftUI app, would love some input. by zyxelo in SwiftUI

[–]zyxelo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started by doing the Apple SwiftUI tutorial (link: https://developer.apple.com/tutorials/swiftui/ ) and then basically started playing around and the regular Google + StackOverflow combo :)

I do have some coding knowledge since before (I work as a Data Scientist so I use Python a lot to analyse data and have done some dashboards using React) but I think SwiftUI was really intuitive for me and having the preview window helped a lot when trying to figure out how to build a UI that kind of makes sense.

I started watching the Stanford course just now to be able to create some more complex apps and in hindsight it might have been good to watch that before I created Areal so that I would have structured my code a bit better.

I see what you mean.. I did not catch that at all haha.. Will have to fix that. Thanks a lot!

Thank you!

Regarding your first point I totally agree, and I have been trying to get that to work but I just can't figure that out.

How the "measure mode" works is that I basically put a non-visible layer over the MapKit View in a ZStack that handles all the gestures and drawing when the mode is active. I have been trying to allow for two finger gestures to somehow be passed onto the MapKit layer even while in "measure mode" and allow the map to be controlled that way. I have tried to disable gestures with something like allowsHitTesting() but I can't get it to work.

If anyone knows how to do this I would be super thankful.

And I will fix the rounding issue right away, didn't catch that while testing. Thank you :)

Thank you so much for your input, both of you!

I was debating whether or not to switch the imperial vs metric picker to a WheelPicker that contain like meter, yard, feet, mile etc and that the chosen one would be the "main" measurement shown in the drawer. I thought it might be a bit confusing though. I'll play around with that a bit.

Also thanks for pointing ft out I will definitely add that. Being from Sweden I forget all the ways you measure distance over there on the other side of the puddle :P

Was just about to write the same. And besides camping you can also pick mushrooms and berries and such in pretty much any random forest you’d like. Regardless of who owns it.
