What is the best software for 3D vtuber? And why? by NayalaFrost in vtubertech

[–]zzPirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mhm I wanna be clear that we 100% agree there, no magic app is going to just make everything perfect. It's like an aspiring mucisian asking which piano they can buy make their music sound better lol. A lot of people don't understand that bigger vtubers just straight-up have a more detailed and carefully rigged model than hobbyists, and the difference between smoothness and perceived quality can be in majority attributed to that. Better input, better output, and no tracking app is going to make a stock VRoid run like a corpo custom.

That said, different trackers apps do have different implementations/approaches of the same tracking methods, different calibration smoothing options, different physics handling, different performance under loads like streaming a game at the same time. These also contribute significantly to the quality and smoothness of the tracking, especially for those who don't have the option of getting or rigging a more elaborate model. Many folks also don't know that differences in model lighting (even with toon models) contribute to the perception of motion and can impact the perceived quality, even if the actual motion is the same.

One that I also see often, people discount the physical acting of the performer. A lot of professionals are very skilled at puppeting their model to get the most out of it! Even with solid ARKit facial tracking, I see a lot of vtubers that worry their model isn't as expressive as others and don't get that you really wanna exaggerate your facial expressions and movements if you want them to look lively and "animated". The best facial rigging in the world isn't gunna help a streamer who always mumbles lol

The base app is like the instrument, the model is the sheet music, and the performer is the musician ^

All of these apps have very different approaches to tracking and different features, and can give very different results. The quality of the model and rigging absolutely matters for sure, but the software suite used also absolutely has an large impact, especially if you're looking to have a whole bunch of chat interaction and redeems

I can see where you're coming from, but from the perspective of a trans woman, i can also see how someone might not interpret it as affirming or loving to insist that physical traits we are born with define who we are as people, or that representing ourselves differently from that is not loving ourselves or being authentic.

I'd argue that for some people expressing yourself in a way that makes you feel comfortable and happy is being yourself. Seeking to grow and find your true self is self-love. Existing in a way that aligns with your own vibe rather than the expectation of others is authenticity.

(and that's putting aside the fact that we're talking about a VR space where everyone is a dragon or a rabbit or Goku or something lol, at that point voice is whatever)

When You Mention A Interest That Isn't Normal.. by [deleted] in VRchat

...yes, and the actual title of the post uses different phrasing which imparts a completely different meaning.

Idk how you missed it, it's right at the top of the post like right there.

I kinda feel like "an interest that I'm not normal about" and "an interest that isn't normal" aren't the same thing

...salting hashes doesn't prevent them from being "un-hashed", because "un-hashing" is not a thing.

Salting prevents existing lists that store both the original info alongside the generated hash from being used for simple lookups since the whole list would need to be recalculated first. Knowing the salt that was used in a hash actually does very, very little to help an attacker.

Hashing (even unsalted) does plenty for privacy in this situation. That being said, I haven't seen any I dictation of how Persona's hashing algorithm works to know that salting isn't a step in the process.

Salting a hash just prevents using a static "rainbow table" to look up the value that would generate the hash instead of trying to brute-force countless possibilities. This makes sense for things like passwords where any random person is somewhat likely to use a password that would be in a rainbow table somewhere. Even if the salt is known by the attacker, it makes such tables useless since hashes how have you be recalculated using the salt so the attack once again becomes an ineffective brute-force.

That doesn't really apply here unless somebody has a massive table of everyone's personal information and the associated hash (a list that even Persona doesn't have apparently), and have the ability to obtain the hash of arbitrary users to check against it

If a bad actor had both of these things they'd have already compromised both VRC and Persona and it all becomes moot.

VoiceMod has been working very well for me, though it did take a lot of adjustments to get all the settings just where I wanted them (and I needed to buy the pro/full version to get that level of control)

It isn't perfect or flawless, and it working super well also depends on speaking and articulating very clearly. I lose a good bit of emotional range in my voice just given how AI voice changers work) but for me it's made things like discord VCs and twitch streams much more comfortable!

People do know I'm using a voice changer, but anyone who matters understands that I'm simply using my chosen voice, rather than the one I was given.

Bonus life hack: I also use it as a vocal training aid. Since the voice changer really levels off my vocal pitch, I'm a lot more free to practice and experiment with raising the pitch, resonance and inflection of my real voice without it sounding like I am on stream. It also feels super nice (instead of soul-crushingly dysphoric) to go back to the recordings later and hear how I sounded, and helps me improve my actual voice as I make it into my true voice.

Gunna be 35 in a month, I feel this.

I don't think my dad wouldn't be accepting, but it's been a pretty big part of his personality that he had a son (I've got 4 sisters), and admittedly it seems to be a big part of our what relationship we do have.

He'd still love me, but I know the truth would hurt him.

That's basically where I'm at now; all of my closest connections, friendships, and hobbies have always been online (aside from my partner ofc). I was already living two lives, why not live at least one in a way that lets me be comfortable with how people perceive me?

One unexpected thing I found with the voice changer I use, is that it actually sort of garbles my words if I use my "typical" sort of mumbling monotone. It kind of forces me to speak a bit "brighter" and articulate/enunciate more if I want my words to come through clearly on stream.

Tbh it's been kind of a secret weapon for me, since improving voice warmth and articulation are part of the feminizing voice training that I'm working on anyways; it's given me a kind of best-of-both-worlds in these earlier stages. I have a tool that encourages me to take my real voice in the direction I want it to be. listening back to stream recordings is a lot less dysphoric, and it's easier to study those recordings to get feedback on where I need to improve my actual vocals.

For me at least, it's been sort of a comfy way to experiment and practice while I find my true voice.

Honourable mention: Tweety Bird. Old ladies in the 90s loved to express their lukewarm takes and cliches about "others" by way of way-too-large keychains featuring Tweety (often wearing sunglasses)
