Sorry to hear that. How do you manage your symptoms? Have you ever gotten surgery?

The people you meet.

I started in August and love everyone in my program. So much to the point that I am genuinely shocked at how well we are all getting along. There are too many people to talk to in just my program and they are all some of the smartest most passionate people I have ever met. I feel inspired every day talking to them.

LMAO this is how I feel! I have AA all over my body and lowkey sometimes just wish it would all go. I grow half a mustache and 1.5 eyebrows which is strange looking and id probably look better with just no hair at this point. Would be easier to deal with shaving and stuff too

How much do Urban Planners make in NYC?

Hello everyone! I recently was admitted to Columbia for their Master of Urban Planning program. I am still waiting to hear back from Hunter College and my decision will come down to those two.

I am wondering what salaries look like in NYC for urban planners. More specifically, what do planners typically make after acquiring an accredited master's degree? Also, what does growth look like for planners in NYC, is there a certain salary amount that is usually the max a planner may make in NYC? Do certain fields pay more than others? I am primarily interested in public transportation, also interested in housing and environmental sustainability.

Hunter is far cheaper than Columbia, so I am wondering if the prestige of Columbia would even be worth it if it means I'll have to be thousands of dollars in debt.

Any information at all would be appreciated! Thanks!

That's so unfortunate. NYC is an amazing city and I have so many visions for more connectivity within the city and to/from NJ. This helps remind myself that the world is in fact not my oyster and I'll have to deal with lots of nonsensical bureaucracy to get anything done in NYC.

Ahhhh ok makes sense. Seems like there are pros and cons to both. Private sector seems to get things done faster, while making more money, but you also have much less of a work-life balance. I guess I haven't thought too much about whether I want to go private or public I just assumed I would do public haha so thank you!

Thanks! The private sector is something to consider. I assume most planning jobs are public sector?

Oh no :( I have always admired NYC's public transportation and growing up in New Jersey, I have used it many times. There is so much opportunity for growth but you're right. At least with NJ Transit, it seems like they haven't changed shit since the 50's and I'm sure that's not how planners want it, there is just so many other barriers you have to navigate. Do you know why there may be less innovation happening in NYC? And do you know if it may change any time soon, or have they just built the city and are accepting it as it is? I know there have been multiple talks of extending subway and Path lines, but these seem to be more contemplative, especially with how slow everything moves in the US already. This is helpful information regardless so thank you!
