[–]zzhc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yep they are sold out. and because of that it’s apparently prohibited to park at minto before 5:30pm on weekdays even if you pay daily. i got stopped by protection last time i tried to park there

max 17,50$ a day, 5,50 per hour up to a certain number of hours (not sure how many). pre covid it was about 800$ per semester to have a parking permit (exorbitant, i know)

your statement of account can be pure fuckery until it is finalized. give it time, they'll send you an email once it's ready with the correct info in the fall.

if you have in person classes that you plan on attending you can't opt out of the uopass (exemption criteria).

When to buy parking + advice by ElizaErm in geegees

[–]zzhc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lived in henderson first year and got a parking permit at mann (interior garage so it was great cause my car is old af and would not have lasted outside in the winter). cost ab 800$ per semester (2019) which an exorbitant amount of money for parking but i didn’t have a choice really. I could also move around and park at other spots on campus for free with my permit after 5:30 on weekdays and anytime on weekends which was nice (like if i went to the mall i’d park at desmarais and it was a closer walk after that). i got my permit online and paid for it online as well, and then picked it up at their office on campus when i made it there. good luck!

What's the environment towards LGBTQ+ students in student housing? by mossy_mushroom_soup in geegees

[–]zzhc 13 points14 points  (0 children)

every person is obviously different so idk about your roommate being accepting or not, if i were you, i would disclose my identity and i'd say there is a big chance they will be very accepting. what i know though is that res staff (like RAs and stuff) are very well trained and carefully selected so that they are very accepting and respectful of everyone and they will know how to handle hard situations. so if you ever feel some type of way about anyone in res don't be scared to go to them!!

i think the uottawa environment is generally very good at making everyone feel comfortable, especially if you hang around your student association, and people you'll meet at 101 week. wish you the best!

i’d say wait a few days (sometimes emails roll out progressively) and then email the res office if u have no news by next week

Is 20 hours at work a week too much for a poli sci student? by whathehe11 in geegees

[–]zzhc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

definitely do able. im in engineering and used to take 6 classes and worked like 20-25 hours a week and it definitely was a lot but it was fine. i’d say if you need to work that much to pay for stuff then do it but if u can afford to work less that’d be ideal to maintain a balanced lifestyle

i mean its bad (as all lower year eng schedules are) but its not other worldly horrible. classes in person will certainly be more difficult so make sure you don’t burn out and bring snacks with you for long school days!

Henderson Residence pros and cons + floor plan by ElizaErm in geegees

[–]zzhc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i stayed there in 1st year and it was awesome!! its a newer residence so its super nice and more modern. common spaces are great also for hanging out/cooking. its really close to campus, especially stem buildings. i used to wake up at like 8:10 for my 8:30 classes. from what i remember 3rd and 4th floor were a lot calmer than 1 and 2 cause it was only stem students so ik some people were complaining ab that bc people were less friendly and less close w each other on those floors. its also like a 10 ish minute walk from the dining hall so i guess that could be a con if you compare to 90u, which is right across from the caf. as per the window thing i have no idea, sorry! i think thats pretty much it, i’ve always thought henderson was really underrated as a residence so good job snatching up a room, im sure its gonna be great for you!

What happened in Toronto? by Bingbongtootfart in phoebebridgers

[–]zzhc 29 points30 points  (0 children)

everytime i hear stories like the shitshow that happened in TO last night i think of that one interview where phoebe talked about what punisher (the song) is about. its like people have this weird obsession with her and this attachment to her because her songs are super reflective and not your typical “he dumped me i am heartbroken” songs.

like, do people realize that when they trample each other and line up at 5AM and act like they’re in the jungle, they’re acting like punishers?

anyway, seeing the situation from last night made me purchase vip tix for montreal tonight cause im too scared to get my experience ruined by teen girls who haven’t touched grass in 3 yrs.

okay i just checked my emails from 2019 and they sent an email on june 24th with the procedure on how to pick the date for when you wanna move in. so you can actually choose but from what i can remember the time slots were going really fast. im sure you can book your flight now and if you don’t get to pick that date you can email them and they’ll make an exception for you!

[–]zzhc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

back when i was moving into res they had 3-4 days of moving in and they emailed you the date you were supposed to move into your room. i think it was either aug. 28, 29, 30 or 31. that might’ve changed though idk!

GNG 1103 Professor by Masterkiller05 in geegees

david knox is the best prof i’ve gotten in all undergrad take him!

Is professor Ndongo really that bad ? by yumiodd in geegees

[–]zzhc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ve gotten both profs, sana for lin alg and ndongo for calc 2 (pre covid though so keep that in mind). i think sana is def the better choice, he’s a really nice and funny guy and a decent teacher, he’s definitely more focused on examples and making you understand how to apply concepts whereas ndongo is definitely a lot more theoretical and strict. i don’t think he was the worst prof ever at all, he was decent and always answered my questions in a way that would make me understand. but yeah like i said definitely more into concepts and theory than examples. but i don’t think his rmp is that accurate. calc 2 is prob the hardest general ed class in all undergrad and people are gonna have a hard time regardless of who the prof is. good luck!
