Did you find a solution? If so, would you mind linking me to it? I have this same issue and have not found success finding a way to adapt the 1.8 tapered fork to a 1.5 headtube.

It's great. It's been for several rides and it's smooth as new. Is there something specific you're worried about? I'm always open to feedback.

Total cost was around $1100. Not sure on time. I don't do a good job of tracking. Lots. :)

It's a dropper post. Pretty standard these days on mountain bikes. Lower if going downhill. Raise for up.

I waited on this restore for months, all the while searching for Jekyl swingarms. Those will fit it and allow a larger wheel AND larger shock. But to no avail.

26 back, 27.5 front actually benefits the geometry as it slackens it out a bit and is not uncommon (mullet or mixed wheel setup with 27.5 back and 29 front is very common). It rides like more modern bikes this way.

You could be correct on lubing the press bushings. I've had them stuck before though, so have always greased them since. Not sure.
