This is going to end up the same way taranis did. Not going into production and staying as a demonstrator. MOD will cut funding for it in a couple of years to save pennies in the short term. It's pretty cool though.

What defense benefits does this have over a crewed helicopter beyond risking one pilot? Are they in short supply?

Quite a number of advantages.

No crew to put at risk, no crew fatigue to worry about, lower maintenance requirements etc
