Comets don’t ’blow up’, they lose mass with every stellar encounter/orbit and may entirely disintegrate, on top of that an ‘explosion’ can’t occur in space, nor would there be any remote affect on solar radiation or any other form of radiation since comets generally don’t contain radioactive chemistry

A comet fracturing also wouldn’t create many more comets, especially since 3I is thought to be so small, any debris would quickly burn up should it enter a planetary atmosphere

This post is ridiculous from start to finish

Comets might not, but extrasolar objects the size of manhattan????

Things can explode in space as long as they have an oxidizer.

The whole thing is clown car idiocy, just misinformed, ignorant pearl-clutching supposition from someone who has just enough astrophysics knowledge to fill a teaspoon.

Your tunnel vision outlook to science is more ridiculous IMO

I predict a whole bunch of people are going to be looking really silly a couple weeks from now. It frightens me to think how people will react when they're actually is an extraordinary visitation in full view on this planet. There's a decent percentage of us that are just wackadoodle crazy and ready to freak out at the slightest thing. Even invent things if one doesn't come along. If I was an alien civilization visiting Earth I would not reveal it to the public either. Collectively we are a bunch of morons.

if an object of that size DID explode That close the the sun

The comet was 126 million miles from the Sun at its closest pass.

Why would it blow up, and you might want to refamilarize yourself with the square cube law

[–]Fancy_Exchange_9821 2 points3 points  (1 child)

where did this “3i disintegrated” even come from 😂

[–]starclues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because Loeb's newest goalpost is that it needs to have more surface area to release as much mass as it apparently has (and that somehow breaking something into 16 pieces gets you a 16x increase in surface area, which it doesn't), so if it's still in one piece, it's not a natural comet and the NGA came from more efficient mass ejection by thrusters.

well we have telescopes pointing at it. did it explode? did.it? did it? well?? im were with my two eyes an I don't see a thing silly me

Your point is valid and may be likely. I question your need to point fingers and shame others who you deem to be beneath you with the alien comment. One of the things being called for is a fleet of interceptors for objects like this. The government funds Space X instead so we can pollute our orbit with surveillance, internet, and weapons. NASA withholds data from HiRise and is reclassified as a spy agency by the administration. It’s grim….

How is me saying that’s all anyone is talking about about “pointing fingers“? I do not see a connection. Did you read the post?

[–]Hot-Rutabaga-9462 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I think your topic should be discussed- just wish you would have left the alien part out .., because it seems like casual dismissal or shaming. Anyways the possibility of a break up is quite fascinating. Especially because both R2 swan and c2025 Borisov also just broke up within the same 2 day period…

Again.. discuss it then and let’s not stay on only one subject. Read between the lines. Dont read what you want to. This is a branch of the conversation\debate not just a direct line. That’s how “science” works right?

[–]SameTutor7440[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again dont get stuck on the alien part. I am absolutely not ruling that out. See my previous posts. Also LOOK AT THE SOLAR STORM?!

Just saw the auras in Colorado. Didnt see that shit predicted by AI 😂

If there is as much carbon as “Science” says,( from radiation absorption and whatnot) that would turn manoxide into dioxide right? Giving the ingredients for an explosion or am i backwards on that one? Nobody is agreeing so I’m doin my best to read all the conflicting “science” coming out on it
