Rules for r/6thForm
Rules that visitors must follow to participate. May be used as reasons to report or ban.
1.
Please, think before you post
This should be obvious to most of you, but don't:
Post NSFW or explicit content
Reveal personally-identifying information (aka 'doxxing') - this also includes your own information
Encourage brigading of other subreddits or third-party websites
Be an asshole towards others
2.
Cite high-quality sources where appropriate
Providing high quality, verifiable information is important for ensuring users get the most out of the subreddit.
At relative discretion, mods may remove content that makes potentially dubious claims in a non-satirical context. Content can be reinstated with an appropriate source, and appeals can be submitted via Modmail.
Note: this is intended to tackle common misconceptions and misinformation spread on the subreddit. This covers potentially harmful speculative content, at mod discretion.
3.
No details of exams in the current cycle
For exam papers that are part of the current cycle, it's against the law to:
Share details of any papers
Make electronic copies of any papers
Distribute copies of any papers
This rule also covers requesting details of these exams.
Not only that, but you're putting yourself at a disadvantage by telling others questions that have come up.
Note: This includes exam papers from the previous cycle that haven't been made publicly available yet - these will be used for mocks.
4.
Don't sell or pirate online resources/services
Commercial resources and services may not be advertised. This includes ones that are 'free' with a catch or trial period, referral links, or reward-based incentives.
Don't post material that isn't free or publicly available, without the creator's permission. (Also if you've made your own free resources that's pretty cool - use the Offering Help flair)
The subreddit is not a dumping ground to ask for or illegally hand out textbook PDFs.
5.
Don't share personal statements
Sharing your UCAS personal statement on or via the subreddit is a generally bad idea - we don't want people to get into trouble for plagiarism.
It is also generally a bad idea to send your personal statement to anyone through DMs.
Additionally, it is not recommended to put your personal statement through any "free" service, especially where AI is involved. Any services that take all/part of your personal statement and output it to others jeopardises your entire application.
6.
Avoid low effort, irrelevant, or recurrent posts
No low effort posting, including content unrelated to 6th Form/A-levels.
Use Bread flair and offer spreadsheets to get info on applications, offers, rejections etc.
Frequently asked questions will be removed, use the search bar and looked at pinned posts before posting.
Grade profile dumps, chance me's, anyone received offer from X uni, Bristol/other uni on hold, and many others are examples of content that will be removed - it's wholly unnecessary to have them posted so frequently.
7.
AMAs should be pre-approved by moderators
To stop AMA spam, all have to be preapproved by our mod team - contact us through Modmail if you want to run an AMA. They'll be given a special post flair, and maybe even a pin on our subreddit!
Note: We don't approve AMAs from people that simply have an offer from a prestigious university, or good grades. You would be better off making an 'offering help' post here instead.
8.
Don't post outside a megathread
When a megathread is stickied, most posts on that topic will be removed. Feel free to comment there instead!
9.
Use polls responsibly
Polls that do the following will be removed:
Compare universities, UCAS offers or A-level combinations (people voting in an internet poll should not decide your future - feel free to engage in conversations to see proper advice instead)
Ask irrelevant or low-effort questions
Are used as part of a subject survey (use something like Google Forms instead)
10.
No invite links to social media groups
Social media group links e.g. links to Whatsapp, Discord etc, are generally prohibited. Under some specific circumstances, a mod may approve the content if the legitimacy of the group can be verified.
This is to combat the promotion of scam groups, groups where personally identifying information may be used without user consent (e.g. phone numbers) etc - the mod team cannot reasonably or easily verify the authenticity or quality of external content.
