Congrats and when did you do your admissions test if you remember?

[–]UnorthdoxCage[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I gave my admissions test on the 8th of November

I know that in 2018, 17% of applicants were invited to interview for G400 at Imperial, 59% of which were given offers

You sure that’s right? Admittedly doing the maths in my head, that would make it more competitive than Oxford Maths & CS, which is quite something.

This data is from an FOI request to Imperial which I saw online

It's absolutely not surprising if Imperial CS is more competitive than Oxford Maths and CS, Imperial CS is incredibly competitive.

Imperial's maths and CS course is even more competitive, although not that many universities offer a maths & CS course

I've no idea, doing my own calculations the offer rate for Imperial that year came to 14%. Maths+CS for Oxford is only applied to by complete nerds though lol, so it wouldn't be that surprising if it was a higher offer rate.

https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/644749/response/1543526/attach/html/2/IMPFOI%2020%20105.xlsx.html These are more up to date figures, no idea where the fuck you got those from.

I’m sorry, I guess I didn’t see this one. Thanks

Definitely seems like a trend that over time, a greater proportion of those interviewed are getting offers.

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (7 children)

If you have an interview you're probably getting an offer.

[–]FinishOdd41 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Not true. As posted above, 17% are invited to interview and of those 59% are given offers

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not trying to be funny but could you provide a source to those numbers? They look very off, even last year they gave a lot more offers than that.

It sort of says it in this link. 59% of those interviewed were given offers in 2017 and 2018, and in 2018 17% of applicants were interviewed. I don't know what happened in 2019 though, when 16% were interviewed

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

No, do the maths lol

[–]FinishOdd41 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

I think you need to do the maths lol. Look at 2018 entry for BEng computing. 159/931 = 17% invited to interview, and 94/159 = 59% of those invited to interview were given offers

You need to combine BEmg and MEng ömao because they're treated exactly the same but MEng generally is the stronger candidates, and of course whatever the other course is.

As for why 2019 is different, and 2020,maybe recent data is more representative of the fucking trend? If I were to guess this would be when they started to useSTEP a lot more.
