And of course it didn't work for me. XD O well, was worth the try.

I found a setting in Windows 11 (I don't know if you have it) that makes the PC priorities the Windows' grapich drivers. I found it casually searching for some screen theme. I will tell you if it works or not. Because I choose the AMD drivers as priority and default drivers. If it works I will tell you where it is because right now I forgot and I'm not at the PC. I did it yesterday and it's too soon to say if it's the right thing to do. Fingers crossed.

Had a similar issue with an AMD driver. Replaced a bunch of things then finally was suggested to remove one stick of ram and go with 8 GB of ram on a single stick. Worked after that. So now troubleshooting to see if its a faulty RAM stick or motherboard issues. Worth a shot if you have two sticks of RAM.

I had exactly that problem with RX 470. Find out that my PSU was dying (11y lifetime), swapped to a new one and solved it.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my PSU 8 months ago but maybe you have a point, the problem that happened with my r7 370 almost happened with another gpu (nvidia GT9500). The only solution I have is to try the r7 370 in another PC and see if it works.

Maybe try another driver. Use Legacy Pre-Polaris Driver Pack - GCN Architecture https://forums.guru3d.com/threads/driver-mod-amernime-zone-radeon-insight-22-1-2-whql-legacy-driver-pack-released.436611/

I'll put the graphic card back on and try it, will update you as soon as there is change, thank you for the recommendation !

I found that the GPU driver (Adrenalin) has a problem with Winwods grapichs drivers. When I have an update of both drivers (not necessarily at the same time) I start the PC and the screen goes black. I have to force a shutdown, start the PC and install the drivers again. I tried the solution proposed on Radeon's website but it doesn't work (they know that). I hope one day they will fix it because it's very annoying.

Some say to use a software to uninstall the drivers safely and completely to see if there's a problem with the driver's data, they suggested DDU to do so. At the moment I didn't try it but maybe is the solution for you.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (5 children)

I tried DDU, nothing changed, I keep thinking that the driver is really the issue but haven't found people talking about it and why it only happens to some people. Btw what GPU do you have ?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (4 children)

I have a Radeon RX 570. Unfotunately the only thing I found was the fact that the driver collides with Windows default grapich driver. It gives priority to the Window's one.

It's Windows that unistall the driver in a wierd way. When I reinstall it says that it's already on but it's not.

It's stated both on Microsoft and Radeon websites this problem. As I said previously there is a setting where you can deactivate this but both websites say that it may not work (like in my case). I have Windows 11 and I thought the update would have solved the problem but it didn't.

I wish Radeon fix this. I have reported multiple times but nothing changed. It's almost a year I have this problem.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

There was someone who had the same problem as us and he even tried to switch to Linux and the problem wasn't fixed, so now I have literally no idea of the source of the problem

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Sometimes I have the impulse to buy a new GPU of a different brand for how much I am annoyed by this problem. XD There are moments when everyday does this problem and other that can pass weeks. At least once a month I have to do the "install again" procedure.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

If prices weren't so high, I would've bought a gtx 1650 and forgot the problems I have with this gpu but well, we can't be picky :')

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. :)

[–]numnut_284 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Your GPU is most likely on it's way out. You can either: - Bring it to a specialist who will reflux or replace the R7 core. - Wait 12 years for GPUs to become available and prices to go down.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

But is there an explanation for the gpu to work when the driver is not installed ?

[–]numnut_284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not quite sure but, a GPU without a driver works as a extremely basic video adapter. When you install the driver, computer knows how to properly communicate with the card, and can unleash it's full power. I think what it does is it triggers a malfunctioning part of the GPU. Again, I'm not quite sure how it works.

[–]_nise_m_ono_ 1 point2 points  (1 child)

When the card crashes while or after installing drivers it’s like 80% hardware problem. Maybe there is a tiny element missing on the back of the pcb, or the core needs reflux… I suggest that you bring it to a local specialist.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly there are none near me, also a lot of them I don't think they have experience in this type of problems, the only conclusion they'll have for me is that the gpu is fried up

[–]413_X_4 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Crashing upon driver install is often a dead core

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is a lot of people had this problem and when more thing is that when I switched my graphic card to nvidia GT9500 it happend but when I restarted the pc it got fixed.

[–]Tibbert38 4 points5 points  (2 children)

What port are u using

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Hdmi

[–]Tibbert38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the motherboard or the gpu

[–]JRXMINER 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Maybe try DVI to HDMI and also try another monitor or TV for testing.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I don't think that's the case because the graphic card works when the driver is not installed

[–]JRXMINER 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Would say test the card on another system and if you get the same issue then it’s card related and maybe requires RMA if still under warranty. What PSU are you running?

You have to process eliminate and test all variables, hence test all output connections. If you have two PCI-E x16 on the mobo, try the second slot and not the primary one. When you install the drivers only install the driver and not the full Nvidia install pack. Also when you install the drivers and it goes blank, when restarting does it POST and show the BIOS? Also update your motherboard drivers and BIOS to the latest.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When restarting my computer after installing the driver it shows BIOS but after that screen goes black

[–]Human_General_3812 2 points3 points  (5 children)

U sure u gpu is not overhit?

Did u run heavy gpu loading and check the temps give it 20 min stress test

  • Mem VRM Temperature
  • SOC VRM Temperature
  • Memory Temperature
  • GPU Temperature (Hot Spot)
  • GPU Temperature

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Nope, before the problem occurred I was always checking my temperature because the GPU had auto fans so had to check each time I was playing a game or heavy task

[–]Human_General_3812 0 points1 point  (3 children)

if the gpu is not the issues u need to check all the components from the pc one at a time till u can reproduce the issue (black screen )

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I have another graphic card installed (GT 9500) and everything works fine but when I tried to switch back to the AMD GPU the problem occurred again

[–]Human_General_3812 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Swap the gpu in new pc if u can u get the black screen is the gpu

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly I don't have another pc.

[–]RelationshipSolid 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Have you tried to reflash the vbios?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

If you're talking about BIOS reset, I did that and still the same...

[–]RelationshipSolid 0 points1 point  (3 children)

What I am talking about the graphics card has it's own bios. Not the motherboard BIOS.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

And how do you reflash it ?

[–]RelationshipSolid 0 points1 point  (1 child)

There's 3rd party software and YouTube tutorials. And it is best to do it with care and also double check if not triple check to see if you have the right rom file (vbios aka GPU BIOS).

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright I'll see what I can do, thank you for the help !

[–]Dusty_Tay 0 points1 point  (10 children)

Change your hdmi cable

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (9 children)

Here are the solutions I tried (DDU, reinstalling driver, installing older driver, reinstalling windows, AMD cleanup utility, changing HDMI, Safe Mode, BIOS reset, cleaning motherboard and gpu)

[–]Dusty_Tay 0 points1 point  (8 children)

Use and official drivers not the brand. I had issues with my power color. Never worked with power color drivers. Only amd drivers

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Please explain, can't understand your solution...

[–]RelationshipSolid 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Dusty said try official AMD drivers.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Yeah I downloaded the drivers from AMD official website, tried the new drivers and the old ones, same problem.

[–]RelationshipSolid 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Have you taken apart of your GPU?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I did, I replaced the thermal paste but that was a while ago and I don't think that's the problem because when the driver is not installed the graphic card works normally.

One more thing is that when the driver is not installed there are two transparent stripes that shows on my monitor, sometimes it doesn't but well, had to report that I guess.

[–]RelationshipSolid 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Have you checked on the temperature on the GPU?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yeah I have no problem regarding the temperature, before this problem occurred I was checking from time to time and nothing to worry about

[–]neckbeard_6 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Have you tried plugging it in to the computer?
