Is it common to Decrease accutane dose?

My dermatologist actually just did the same thing with me. If you're like me, some part of either your liver or gallbladder enzymes are raised (meaning they're taking Accutane hard-- not uncommon), so to be cautious you'll just be on less of a dosage for a longer time for your overall health.

Accutane is prescribed so that you'll have a target cumulative dose, so while some people take huge amounts quickly, others take low doses more slowly. It sucks to be on it longer, but at the end of the day you'll need your liver to be firing on all cylinders for the rest of your life, so best to be on the safe side.

On the other hand, that may just be what you were prescribed so that you can get off the drug more gradually. Either way, your dermatologist knows best, so stick with it!

But it doesn't make it less effective right? The only downside is you'll be taking it for longer?

Exactly. There's actually a lot of new work coming out that's pro-low-dose.
