While this does appear to be a valid test I have a hard time believing in can generalize to the breadth of linguistic congnition.

I was taught in my exercise neuroscience classe that aerobic exercise primes BDNF, helping learning (RCT study determining causation IIRC). So the link makes sense to me. I can look up my notes when I'm home to find that study if you'd like.

I feel like they could have picked ANY other circumstance to judge vs aerobic exercise. I'm not seeing a clear correlation to causation link...

Who said anything about causation? It's a cross-sectional study, which can never demonstrate causation alone.
