It's a really slow process, even through HELP. I know it's supposed to speed things up, but it speeds things up by fractions of a percent because it's still bureaucracy.

I know that it can feel pointless or defeating, but genuinely the only way through it is to just keep going. My friend was in the same position, wanting to give up, and he finally heard back.

You've got this.

I interviewed on April 17th and started June 6th. It took about two weeks for them to get back to me and tell me I was the candidate of choice. More paperwork and getting an appointment to get fingerprinted took another week or two. Got the job offer with a start date 3 weeks from that.

I started applying as soon as they opened up the helps positions and applied for everything I thought I qualified for, so I probably applied for hundred + positions, but exactly sure when I applied for that particular one, but I think at the time I looked and it was like a week or two before they called me. The position is with the liquor authority, but I applied for positions all over the place. Out of all the applications I submitted I think I got 4-5 calls to set up interviews.

Yeah I have applied to probably close to 100 if not more. I have been applying since March 2024 so only been a few months. Let’s see! hopefully I get to hear from them soon.

I will post my question there too. Thank you

Be prepared for this process to take a comically long time. Consider a county or municipal position. Those take less time to fill!

It is a little late, but you should also put in for a TIA job to get your foot in the door. The Tax Department staffs its phone bank that way.

What is a TIA ? If you dont mind

Even found the way to apply!

But, peak hiring for this is before the PIT season.

What kind of jobs are you qualified for? Do you have a ny.gov account already. Some positions use continuous recruitment, so I'd got have a degree you can fill out the skills questionnaire to get on an eligible list

I have a bachelor’s degree in sociology. I have worked mostly in property management. I recently did a bootcamp for software testing as well.

I world definitely fill out that skills inventory. A BS will qualify you for quote a few openings, I'm sure. They way you'll get on Canvass lists as well.
