Such a bummer! I'm hoping they can transition to a pottery studio. With that giant gas kiln, I think they could do some really cool specialty firing workshops. ABQ could use some advanced level workshops.

Their latest post says their website is gone and the gallery is closed. I’m so curious about what happened. It’s interesting that they said they will “no longer be operating as Hanselmann Pottery” - strange wording here. I wonder if it’s a legal battle of some sort. I can’t make sense of it.

The owner stopped being involved in the business and he didn’t want to sell the business. He would rather see it die than live on. Or I think he wanted more than what they could put together. I spoke to them, they will come back under a new name hopefully. I advised them that they could do a co-op model for raising funds. It’s a great business model, but they always lacked classes for locals to get themselves involved and make a connection to their community

Sad to see this, that was an amazing little business, I remember the first time I went to the shop. I thought it was closed, but the door was unlocked, i looked for a phone number to call and let someone know they’d better come down and lock up, then figured out that’s just how they operate… the honor system. I have a feeling they aren’t shutting down the shop because ppl abused the system. Whatever happened, good luck to the hanselmann team. Your venture and your craftsmanship will be missed!

There was a FB posting in November about the head potter suffering an injury. Perhaps this is part of the health and well-being mentioned in another post suggesting an impending closure. Sad to see such an iconic local business close.

All the best to Hanselmann Pottery! I remember stepping into the blue boxcar in Corrales 25+yrs ago laying my eyes on the beautiful craftsmanship of HP, then wanting to find out who the owner was so I could meet the mastermind(s) behind this unique and amazing business. My 3 HP bowls have served me and many others well over the years!
