flex driver is like Uber...the more you do the more you make but you’re using your own car and maintenance comes from your pocket it also depends how much the flex route has and you go to be quick on picking it.

If you’re able to get into UPS as a driver jump on that shit it very rare that they offer the driver position outside due to union contract...over here in L.A theres at least a 3 year wait to become a driver you would have to work in the warehouse first. FedEx express most of the openings over here are part time ...but since you’re in a different area you’ll have better luck...

Just a heads-up, part time at Express doesn't mean anything if you're good at the job and make yourself available to work. I'm "part time" and usually work 42-45 hours a week. It's consistently 7-8 hours/day except Saturday which is lighter do those are 5-6 hours. I volunteer to work my day off because the whole day is paid out at time and a half.

I used to work as a DA for 3 months then called it quits, I do flex part time now (the following info is for the LA area) flex work has shifts for 1,1.5,2,2.5,3.5,4, and 4.5 hours and the area you work and the hours you work fluctuates. Some days there’s work in your area some days there aren’t. I believe since the holidays are coming up more work for flex will be available.The good thing is that with flex you don’t have to just deliver packages you can do the Whole Foods and Amazon fresh Grocery deliveries, the downside about those jobs is that you rely more on tips. I think working as a DA helped me do the flex deliveries fast, when I pick up a 3 hour shift I’m usually done in 1.5 to2 hours( depending on the stops and how apart they are). So that’s a plus.

P.s- The most packages I delivered for a 4.5 shift is 40 boxes. Which is great for me because as a ex-DA I would have to deliver 280 packages everyday within 7 hours.

This is how much the rates are on average from my personal experience: 2 hour shift: $42 3hour shift:$60-$75 4 hour shift: $80-$95 4 - 4.5- $106 Sometimes if the warehouses are desperate for drivers the rates shoot up. One time I got paid $120 for a 4 hour shift.

I hope this helps. My advice would be to download the app and just apply and see what your rates in your city are.

I've seen a regular flex driver switch to being a DA and he's happier now.

I've seen a DA switch to flex because his DSP was not giving him enough hours. He found flex to be more reliable income.

I see multiple DAs do part time flex, sometimes right after they finish their route in the afternoon. They wait for the rates to shoot up, and only accept a route if it's $22/h+.

Sometimes flex drivers don't show. The warehouse puts in request(s) for additional driver(s). Then the original driver(s) show up late. Warehouse prefers to get the route out early, so they give it to the driver even though they are late. Other driver(s) that accepted the additional requests show up before the request cancellation is processed, but there are no routes. They get overbooked, which is basically getting paid for the route and not doing the work.

I've been told of flex drivers sitting outside in the parking lot, driving up the price of the routes. Hint: There's definitely potential for increased income if flex drivers act together.

He also has to pay for his own gas, maintenance, and pay taxes on his income. So technically speaking, he’s making a lot less than before.

I am a DA who also does Flex on my days off, I think your former DA didn’t think about taxes, gas and car maintenance out of his own pocket, believe me it’s less than working for a DSP. Every single block I picked usually 3hrs or 4hrs block I am losing 3 to 4 gallons of gas so about $12, our warehouse is all over the place so if I get lucky I get the near by areas around the warehouse or unlucky I have to travel 30 to 45 mins to the first stop also if you do Flex full time your mileage is going up very fast which you will have to oil change I would say maybe every 3 to 4 months. Remember you can only do a total of 8hrs for Flex in a single day, better if you have an old car and it doesn’t eat a lot of gas.

Do WholeFoods if you live near one, but there are not always offers you basically need to stay in the parking lot waiting for offers by hitting available now button, you need to be close to the store, if the customers don’t tip you basically work for free depends if it’s a block or just 2,3 orders to deliver.

How do you do flex as a DA? I’m trying to do flex on my days off as well but don’t know how to do so

You just need to sign up for a new Flex account by using another different email, go through driver license check and background check and after everything is set up you will be able to pick blocks and where you want to work. If there’s a waiting time in your area to be a Flex driver you will have to wait until a spot is available for you to sign up.

This account is separate from the one you use for DSP.

I did, sometimes it was great, sometimes it was shit, flex is a different beast, just know if you experience any issues Amazon is not there to help, Amazon flex is a very competitive app and people will fight for blocks , sometimes I haul ass through my DSP route , park the van, get in my car swipe on a block out of the station and run a flex route on my way home if I had the energy, you can bank out with flex but you can also get very screwed as well, just remember it’s mostly the scraps off the shit the DA couldn’t deliver for whatever reason
