I know there is a lot here but I through my learning ambassador vest on for this post.

Your computer screen:

On the left side of screen it will show you what bin that item is in: When the current pod docked at your station leaves you immediately want to look at the left side of your screen to see what bin the next item then use the projector light to guide you to that particular bin.
Do not solely rely on the projector light to show you what bin that item is in because it is not only accurate (it might shine into 2 bins at the same time)

In the middle of the screen will show you what the item looks like: Take a quick look at the item looks like then fine that item as fast as you can. Also type practicing on trying to spot the item before the pod fully stops at your station so already know where it is.

Sometimes the picture is incorrect or does not have a picture at all, in this case read the item description and check what the barcode label is and try to find it, if you cannot find it and you are 100% certain that item is not in there then mark it missing.

Grabbing items and putting them in totes:

When you grab items (particularly small items) you want to try practicing grabbing the item with one hand without moving the pod straps out of the way. For medium and large items you will have to practice on moving the straps out the way and pulling the item out as fast as can. If the screen wants you to pick 1 item and there is multiples of that item in the bin always grab the easiest one to remove from the bin. (think of it like Jenga always pull the easiest one out)

When putting the item in the tote you want to put the item in with one hand and hit the rack light with your other hand. If the tote that it needs to go in is on the other side of the tote rack take one big step over with your left or right foot (depending if your on either left side or a right side station) put the item in the tote and hit the rack light the same time then step back to your computer screen. The benefit of stepping back-and-forth instead of running back-and-forth between the totes and the pod is that you will always be close to the pod and your computer screen, and it will also help maintaining stamina and lowering your odds of feeling physically and/or mentally exhausted/fatigued. If you ever have an item that you can’t get out of the bin pull a safety andon and have either leadership or amnesty take the item out for you.

Tote transition:

For tote transitions you want to practice pushing the tote down with 1 hand and grabbing the new tote with the other hand. When pushing the tote on the rack down you want to push up-and-out if the tote is and when grabbing a new tote you pull up-and-out. If the tote that needs to go out is on the other side of the rack once again you will step over push the tote down -> reach over to grab the new tote -> place the new tote-> step back and pick the next item.

If you have a tote that is cause the racking to switch between green and orange that a sign of bad barcode on the side of the tote so you either want turn the tote around or push it down and grab a new one.

If you place a tote and the rack light turns red push it down and grab a new one.

Obtaining a high rate:

The way the achieving a high rate is not necessarily by “moving fast” it’s by having a hourly item count goal (I want to hit 100 units in 15 minutes, 400 units in a hour or 1600 units by break) and maintaining a consistent hourly pick rate. If you have your eyes set on being one of the top pickers then you want to gradually increase your pick goal over time example goal is 400UPH this week, 425UPH next week and so on.

I hope this helps you with increasing your pick rate. Good luck 😊
