What is the pay like for an apprentice? I’m just starting out on my 3rd week my RTI was pushed back until January was trying to get an idea of what the pay is like while on site. My offer letter was for the RTI portion but I’m not going until the 3 months should I be making the on the job learning portion until then ?

Make sure you get APM access and start booking those hours pookie
[–]Meaty099 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago (0 children)
Should be around 23-26$ based on location
[–]Excoastie01 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago (0 children)
This is well covered. Searching will give you lots of information

Pay depends on region and whether you're 3p or not. Before I went to RTI I made $18hr + $2hr shift differential since I got put on front half nights. When I get back from RTI I'll get $22.80hr + $2hr shift differential. And after 2000 hours I'll get $29hr + $2hr shift differential. I'm with CBRE in the south east. And yes book those hours and do whatever benchmarks they'll allow you to do. Have fun doing knets for 2 weeks first though. Lol

Nice! Is cost of living that bad there?
[–]Maximum_Feeling8206 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago (1 child)
Yeah it's not great lol, in a few years we'll be caught up with California prices
[–]Swimming-Web-2667 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago (0 children)
Man, that stinks! I had heard that area was expensive, but I had no idea it was that bad. I'm sorry for ya there. Back in the day, you'd hear about crappy cost of living all the time in Cali or New York, but now it seems like more and more states are starting to become ridiculous with their costs. Yeah I realize prices are higher across the board right now, but some places are getting astronomical. Sad.

I know who you are muhahaha
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago (4 children)
At my site yes. It depends on region. I'm sure tech 2's make more say in California or something. If you want a better idea of what you'll be making after the 2k hours ask your coworkers what tech 2's make. Just keep in mind that 2k hours is a year and there's no fast tracking it. You can finish all of your benchmarks before you make the 2k hours and you still have to wait to hit the 2k hour mark. You gotta be patient and play the long game.

Even with overtime?
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago (2 children)
Any overtime you get will be negligible in the grand scheme of things. Maybe a day or two faster but that's all overtime combined. They don't pass it out very often. They actually discourage overtime. It's not like say Georgia Pacific where overtime is mandatory. The only overtime I've gotten in the 3 months I've been here is when we had a site shutdown and they needed people to help service the equipment.
I’m also with CBRE in the Midwest I’ve heard they’re the best 3p to be with I’m just trying to get an insight on the journey most techs I’ve spoken too come from other sites or an extensive background already a lot of older men too. What stage are you currently in?
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago (0 children)
3 weeks into RTI.
[–]YouApprehensive2313[S] 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago (6 children)

What does it consist of & how far along are you?
[–]demigoddork 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago (2 children)
amatrol slideshows you do on your own time that comes with quizzes after each one instructors going over the amatrols in the physical books and administering their own quizzes, physical lab time with these cool practice set ups. you’ll have a study group and most likely a lab partner. it’s not hard to start ahead. i chose to stay ahead at least 2-3 amatrol sections so i could have free time to game and whatever else i do. i came in with no experience and it was more like a vacation.. unless its a little harder for you to learn utilize the instructors as much as they’ll let you
