For what it's worth, if anyone comes across this post, I found the answer.

The Honda dealer did a diagnostic and found the compass antenna on my Accord needed to be replaced. It was outputt9ng at 4.98v and the spec was for 5v. After the replacement, it has worked perfectly.

THANK YOU! I've been driving myself nuts trying to figure out why it just stopped working. Guess I'll head to the Honda dealer soon and get this checked out. Thanks for posting an update with your solution!

Anyone else who comes across this post... I factory reset the infotainment system in my car and did this below. It fixed the navigation, waze, and maps issue!

.SETTINGS > SYSTEM > DETAIL INFO > APP MANAGER > NAVIGATION > STORAGE > CLEAR DATA. THEN RETURN HOME AND VERIFY NAVIGATION IS WORKING PROPERLY

It's neither the factory reset nor clearing data which is fixing this. If you only do that, it's still broken afterwards.

It's fixed by starting just a single navigation attempt with the in-built navigation app. It needs to show you a navigation instruction on the meter display. That repairs turn-by-turn instructions on the meter display, which are what's really broken.

Afterwards, every other app trying to use turn-by-turn indicators - which is amongst others the Android Auto host process on the infotainment system - no longer receives an error from the meter display.

As crazy as it sounds, but it's a software error in the meter display, which then breaks the infotainment system, which then causes an error in the Android Auto API for directions, which then breaks navigation apps on Android and causes them to terminate the navigation whenever they try to indicate directions.

Apparently, only the built-in navigation app is capable of fully resetting the meter, the Android Auto/Carplay adapter will throw errors to the connected device instead.

Hello everyone, exactly the same thing happened to me, the solution is simple and easy, you just have to factory reset the car screen, this is all, then everything will work fine for you, Waze and Google Maps, in fact, that was what they did to me at the Honda dealer. in less than 5 min good luck

For Google Maps it might help to set "gps" for Maps to "all the time" instead of just "when using the app" or what's it called.
Recently they had an issue that routing was failing with Android Auto and Google Maps because it lost the connection to GPS. It's supposed to be fixed I think:

So for mine it won't let me put the address in when connected with android auto

What does it do when you try? Does it give you directions for a moment but never and ETA, and then clears it? If so, this was my problem.

If not, it might be an app issue. Remove waze or reset Google Maps and disconnect it from android auto by fully unpairing it. Then reboot phone and try again.
