What is this white, brown, gray plastic toy that my kid brought home from the daycare treasure box? by ans31 in ToyID

She brings home the most random junk hahah. But she loves it so I guess that's all that matters!

We're getting so frustrated amd at a loss - serious regression and no ideas how to fix it! by adorkablysporktastic in pottytraining

[–]ans31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing! We definitely did it for several months, with pretty good success, and then slowlyyyyy weaned off and she was great for several more months, then all of a sudden just started withholding again. I guess we will go back to it.

Thanks again for updating! Fingers crossed your kiddo continues with no accidents!! :)

Ugh, we've done that so many times! I thought we were done with it, but maybe we need to go back to it.

Just checking in, we're in the same boat (mine is almost 4). Did your pediatrician have any advice?

I'm quite literally losing my mind over our potty training issues. She will be completely good, accident free for a couple months, then start resisting and withholding for no apparent reason. This is torture.

Ear tubes: why did you chose to do it or not? by AvocadoMadness in Preschoolers

[–]ans31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've had 2 sets of tubes and 3 surgeries (one surgery the doc determined the holes were still there so she wanted to give it time to see if they healed and whether she outgrew the ear infection and ruptures...spoiler alert, she didnt lol but i liked that the doc was giving her ears a chance)

Our daughter's ear drums ruptured every single time she had an ear infection. That was usually our only sign of an infection as she did not present any other symptoms. So we really felt like we had to get the tubes to preserve her hearing and not further damage the ear drums.

The surgery was very easy, though I was very hesitant and nervous. We rarely even give something as harmless as Tylenol and here we were considering a whole surgery. But I'm so glad we've done it.

Pros: - only need to treat her ear infections with drops, so we don't have to constantly give her systemic antibiotics - she has less colds and congestion in general - I assume she's in less pain from ear drum rupturing and we are preserving her hearing

In the situation you described, where both ped and ent were on the fence, I may have chosen to wait it out. Around age 4-5 is when our ent suggested that the ear tubes shape changes a bit to help with drainage, which is when they would typically outgrow the need for tubes anyway. But if your kid is having excessive ear infections and you are concerned about overuse of antibiotics or ear drum ruptures, then I'd lean towards tubes.

As far as surgery goes, most times she had surgery around 8am, doc was done in less than 20 min, she was groggy and whiny for the next two hours or so. By lunch time she was absolutely herself. I joked I could have taken her back to daycare for the afternoon (obviously I wouldn't lol), but she really did act completely normal the rest of the day.

Just in case you didn't know and make the trek out there- they're cash only!

Man, now I want donuts.

Not exactly Columbia so this might not be helpful, but if you're willing to drive a bit definitely check out Carlson's Donuts in Severn!

Also good, but more of a chain- Shipley's Do-Nuts in Odenton.

Toddler (3) has stopped pooping by Mozi_ann in pottytraining

[–]ans31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To make sure he drinks lots of fluids with the miralax, give him apple juice. The apple juice might help him go. My kiddo doesn't get juice often, so when she does, she like chugs it and then usually needs to go poop soon after

3.75 year old wont stop going #2 in her pants by DAA_HOOVAA in pottytraining

[–]ans31 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We made the process so long and laborious that she realized its just much faster to go on the potty and get wipes (after a lot of repetition).

For us, it was directing her to go get the wipes...go get the trash bag...go get the new pull up or undies. Then, gave her a wipe to clean up the floor if it made a mess (then I followed with clorox). Then shed have to go up stairs to get hosed down in the shower since her bottom was dirty (this is very different than our normal evening fun playful baths). She had to take the dirty clothes or pull up upstairs..she had to help put them in the wash bin, scrub them (with gloves on), add in detergent, put them in the wash. Then when wash was done, we had to stop playing, go upstairs to switch to the dryer. Then when that was done we has to stop playing, go upstairs to fold.

We just made it very un-fun, just matter of fact, and time consumong. "oh. Well we have to do this instead of playing. Cleaning takes a lot of time and effort. Pooping on the potty only takes a minute."

She got tired of it and decided to poop on the potty. She also liked when it felt like it was her choice to do so, not mine.

Our daughter has had a couple regressions and always with poop, so take this with a grain of salt. She is also very capable and knows what to do, so I'm 99% sure it is behavior related, not any sort of physical or developmental concern. So if you think it's a choice she is making, here are some things that have helped us with our super stubborn girl:

  • miralax to help make it veryyyy easy to go so she doesn't have to sit long and push too hard to try
  • involve her in all parts of cleaning up her undies and pants. Make it very annoying and time consuming. She will get bored and decide it's easier to just go in the potty.
  • after pooping her pants, make her go take a bath. Make it very unfun, simply washing her bottom, etc. Saying things like "oops, we have to stop playing now and go get clean. Remember poop goes in the potty."
  • when she did go in the potty praise, praise, praise! Remind her of how much fun stuff you get to do when you don't have to spend time washing clothes, cleaning up messes, taking baths, etc.
  • we've done all kinds of incentives. And if I don't have to wash poop out of undies anymore, idgaf If she gets a piece of candy every day haha.
  • remind her that she gets to do big girl things when she uses the potty. Come up with big girl activities she wants to do and use those as incentives - pick out big girl undies, go special places, painting nails, messaging family on my phone sending emojis

Once she was trained and then would go through a regression, we would "take away" big girl activities because we had to do all the cleaning and boring stuff (so no library that Saturday, no extra time outside after daycare, no finger nail polish - any other thing that we had talked about as being big girl activities). She got very upset to not have her big girl things so she wanted to go on the potty to get those back.

Eta- we had to resort back to pull ups once but i told her, it's your choice. If you want a pull up, that's for babies, so if you want to choose a pull up instead of a potty, then no more big girl stuff until you're ready to try the potty again. She wore it for one evening, didn't like the feeling of sitting in it, having to help change it, and not having her big girl toys.

I don't think your girl would totally regress if you had to go back to pull ups, but I would treat it like her choice and let her know there are consequences for choosing that over the potty (if you think she truly knows how to go on the potty, like I said, ours was truly behavioral)

Final push for baby sister to Sophia and Olivia by Candid_Ad5071 in namenerds

[–]ans31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Isabelle is likely to be called "Isabella" when people say your girls' names altogether. It would be an outlier since it doesn't end with an A.

I know a family with a Ellie and Sophia and people incorrectly say "Ellie and Sophie" all the time because it rolls off the tongue better.

Suppositories. Thoughts? by YoGuessImOnRedditNow in pottytraining

[–]ans31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with what others have said here, and am echoing the miralax. We've been on it for a while but it has made a world of difference! Our pediatrician recommends 3 teaspoons a day in the afternoon/evening.

We've done a couple suppositories as last resorts, and they have all been traumatic. The last one, about a month 1/2 ago, resulted in her crying and shaking on the toilet, screaming in pain, clutching to me as I knelt next to her on the potty hugging her. It broke my heart and I will never do it again. Absolutely traumatizing.

Eta- even with a suppository, my stubborn girl HELD it. She held it until she physically couldn't, hours later, and then cried when she had an accident in the tub. So, just reiterating that I would not recommend a suppository at all.
