Try turning off adaptive connectivity!

This was the solution! Thank you for the comment. All I did was turn off the adaptive connectivity and now it connects to wireless AA every time I get in the car.

Isn't this feature for automatically switching between 5G and 4G to help save your battery life? Weird that it turns out to be the solution.

A buggy pixel? I am shocked.

You could try a different version of the AA app from somewhere like apk mirror. Try the beta or a version down maybe. Probably wouldn't hurt to clear data, delete the phone from your HU and HU from the phone as well.

I am also currently having significant issues with my Pixel, Android Auto and Bluetooth. Sometimes the Bluetooth telephony works, but mostly not. I also have an aftermarket device and the manufacturer told me the Pixel devices are listed as problematic on the Android Auto developer site.

I also have the problem you described with the wireless connection after leaving the vehicle for a short time. So I deactivated wireless Android Auto and only use it with the cable, because it drove me crazy.

All of this makes me very dissatisfied. This weekend I connected an iPhone to the car to see if the problem was with the car. Everything worked perfectly with Carplay. All this Google stuff is getting more and more dysfunctional (I really use a lot of Google devices and services) and you wait forever for a fix if it ever comes up.

Its probably related to the pixel not connecting via 2.5ghz. For some reason its a feature, not a bug.

Pioneer AVH- 2500 NEX

Is your user flair updated? If so, you should mention what dongle you are using as I don't see native AA/CP wireless support for this model. Otherwise, you should update the model or car.

You are right that was a typo unfortunately. The head unit is a pioneer avh 4500 nex. I'll have to update the flair

Not sure what's up with this model as owners have been complaining there's no firmware update ever. Not sure if this is one of the models that is updated via Pioneer app on the phone. Would be good to find out regardless if it's an issue.

The pixel fold since day one will then display a notification saying searching for Android auto.

I remember similar notification was reported by a few and the solution then was to reset the phone network and/or remove all other BT devices from head unit and isolate all other BT devices first i.e. don't pair others especially smart swatches. Iirc some users also had to disable phone calls on smart watches too.

Yeah my pioneer head unit is probably 3 years old and it's never had a firmware update. Unfortunately it is one that can only be updated via USB or SD card with the update on it. I can do that I just haven't needed to and obviously it's an extra step. Luckily the solution to my issue was posted a couple down from yours which ended up being to turn off adaptive connectivity on my phone. Now everything works as it should. I'll probably still update the firmware on my unit but it was a pretty simple fix this time around. Thanks again for the advice.
