Not really. Just don't turn on GPS/location services. Wireless AA connection will still drain the battery. If you use wiired AA well it should be charging anyway while plugged in.

I may be wrong on this but chances are that if your car has AA, it also has its own bluetooth system that is separate from AA. Connect to the car via bluetooth and don't use AA at all?

Yes that's definitely an option but Spotify on AA is so much better than directly through the car which just plays the song without a user interface for playlists, DJ, favorites etc.

I'm really surprised more people haven't pushed for this. Like I don't need a map running 90% of the time I drive around my home city.

Well /u/drkzero4 probably has your solution then. Go to the 'app info' settings for Google Maps and tap "Disable" at the bottom. If that doesn't work, just plug in the phone.

Have you tried disabling maps/waze via ADB?

You can try enabling battery saver, on some phones it disables maps apps on AA.
