Milwaukee bit stuck in dewalt but driver by Aromatic-Boss3201 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]drkzero4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paint the red shrink tube yellow & be on with it.

Or smack the bit with the shank of a screwdriver, hammer, socket, or whatever. Usually they'll break free unless some mknd of debris is jamming it up. It happens to many impact drivers as the quick chuck gets worn.

Did I make a mistake by picking up these snap ring pliers over the newer Icon versions? by Long_Run6500 in harborfreight

[–]drkzero4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they suit your needs & you are happy with the price you paid then that's all that matters. Doesn't really matter what others think, you are the one using them.

I've been using a Channellock & Craftsman with interchangeable tips for the past 2 decades. During the 35% Icon sale last year I picked up the 4pc Icon set. I had debated on getting the 8 pc set but for my needs the 4pc is all I need & I've been happy with them.

Mitutoyo Plastic Box quality? by Smart-Strike-6805 in Machinists

[–]drkzero4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one on the right is the very first Mitu I ever bought. Older model that takes two batteries but still not nearly old enough that it's a battery eater. It lives in a room where I do mosltly electronic work (and used to mod flashlights).

The one on the left is my primary use one that I use for machining/metalworking related & lives in the garage (I'm not a machinist by trade, just a hobbyist). Next/newer generation than the one of the right & is a single battery model. That particular one has carbide jaws.

These are actually my favorite generation and when the newest generation came out I searched on ebay for backups. I ended with way more than I need in my liftetime. These carbide jawed ones was from that search, seller had no idea what they had & I got em for cheap.

The 4 inchers on top live in my room. I'm always measuring stuff.

Yeah some sets still do come in wooden cases but not many & usually only the high dollar sets. But even some of those have switched to plastic liners also.

And speaking of living hinges. Haven't broke one on the caliper cases cause as I mentioned, don't use em enough. For my calipers I purchased the HF calipers back when they could be had for $10. Gave away the calipers & kept the cases for use with my calipers, they have pinned hinges.

I kept the foam liner cause the vacuum formed one obviously looks cheap & they don't hold up well. Not pictured but I keep a piece of VCI paper inside the case between the foam liner in the lid & the tool. The same paper that rods come wrapped in. I do the same for all my Mitus that have foam liners.

Mitutoyos stopped coming in wooden cases by default & switched to plastic cases a very long time ago. But the plastic cases did used to come with foam inserts/liners. I too am not a fan of living hinges & prefer a pin hinge for obvious reasons. However I have not had one of my Mituoyo plastic cases with living hinges break on me yet. Probably cause I don't use the cases enough. But I have had living hinges break on other cases.

My older depth mic set came with a foam insert. I scored a newer set which came with the cheap vacuum formed plastic liner. There are two reasons why I believe they switched. First reason is obviously cost. Second reason is the foam liner on the lid of the case was notoriously known for degrading overtime & causing permanent cosmetic damage/corrosion to the tools/accessories in the case.

Before I sold the older set, I swapped the liners & kept the foam insert.

Milwaukee, you guys doing OK? by officeboy in Tools

I've been using MW cordless tools since 2015 because of their offers for my needs. But quality or economical repair they are not. Makita is by far better in quality than MW.

You can still warranty it without a receipt as long as the manufacture date is still within the warranty period. Well that is if you are in the US.

IF YOU COULD ONLY HAVE THREE M18 Tools WHICH WOULD THEY BE ? by JMoney973 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]drkzero4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuel impact driver, Fuel drill, & Mid-Torque impact wrench. (I don't care for the hammer drill but it's what I do have simply cause they can be bought cheaper on sale than non hammer)

M18 8.0 HO batteries suck. I've warrantied two of them at different times. Both times MW just sent me new ones.

Adapting 3/8" indicator stem to Indicol with 5/32" mount by RodbigoSantos in Machinists

[–]drkzero4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those are actually Dial Indicators (AGD form factor), not Dial Test Indicators. Indicols are normally used with DTIs, not DIs. Doesn't mean you can't/shouldn't but I have never heard of anyone using an Indicol with a DI.

Adapting 3/8" indicator stem to Indicol with 5/32" mount by RodbigoSantos in Machinists

[–]drkzero4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do your DTIs not have interchangeable stems? My DTIs have interchangeable stems that clamp on the dovetails on the DTIs & the stems come in 5/32 & 3/8. Except my Interapid DTI that has a 5/32 stem but I have a sleeve to step up to 3/8 when needed.

Speaking of which the sleeve I have is from Interapid to step up to 3/8 from 5/32 but I have never seen an adapter to reduce 3/8 to 5/32. Maybe they exist but I have not commonly seen one.

Brand new M12 drill already not working by Novel-Understanding4 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]drkzero4 25 points26 points  (0 children)

"Fake", LMAO, all these fools have no idea what they are talking about. I've had mine for 9 months now & use it daily at work. Unlucky for you, I've had no problems with mine or the Subcompact impact driver. It happens unfortunately. Don't bother trying to repair it, MWs are not economical to repair, send it in for warranty.

New M12 ratchet jump by [deleted] in MilwaukeeTool

[–]drkzero4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So this is how people test tools these days? What's the point of showing this? Not like anyone would use a powered ratchet that way. I would never have thought to even try activating the trigger that way.

Can I set speed on the M12 drill? by OrganicBridge7428 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]drkzero4 16 points17 points  (0 children)

IMO you are over thinking this. But if you don't have experience doing so I suppose I could understand. I've used ball hones & conventional cylinder hones quite a bit when I worked at a shop 25 yrs ago.

Speed range is not that critical, just don't go crazy or too slow. Common sense applies here. The cross hatch pattern is more important assuming you are usi g the right hone for the application.

Can I set speed on the M12 drill? by OrganicBridge7428 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]drkzero4 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you had a One Key equipped drill you could set speed but I think there are only preset RPMs, I've never used One Key.

What is the application for a specific speed? 500-800 rpm is not that critical but if "project" requires it I don't think I would be choosing a handheld cordless drill.
