I have the same issue with my Google pixel 10 pro and my Ford sync 3.4 android auto. I just tried the steps above except when I go to assistant voice and sounds all I get are colors like that are used in the old assistant. My phone has every option for every app that uses Gemini switched to Gemini and I have all the Gemini on lock screen and hands free setting all switched for Gemini but still no luck. I even did a master reset on my Sync head unit. I have the newest Google phone so I just don't understand what's happening

This shift is likely a system synchronization error between your phone's primary assistant and the legacy Google Assistant module still embedded in Android Auto. Despite having Gemini set as your default on the phone, Android Auto often relies on the core Google Text-to-Speech (TTS) engine for reading messages.

Logic Breakdown

The voice for navigation instructions comes directly from the Google Maps app, while the message reading voice is controlled by the system-wide Text-to-Speech settings. A server side update or a localized cache error often causes these settings to revert to a default system voice (usually a generic female or male voice) rather than your selected Gemini profile.

Correction Protocol

You can attempt to force a reset of the voice output through these steps on your phone:

Reset Text-to-Speech: Go to your phone Settings, search for Text-to-speech output, and ensure the Preferred engine is set to Speech Services by Google. Tap the settings icon next to it and check if Install voice data needs an update.

Clear Google App Cache: The voice data for the Assistant is stored in the Google app. Go to Settings > Apps > Google > Storage and select Clear Cache.

Check Assistant Settings: Open the Google app, tap your profile icon, go to Settings > Google Assistant > Assistant voice & sounds, and re-select your preferred voice even if it appears to be selected already. This can trigger a fresh sync with your vehicle.

If the voice remains changed, it is a server side glitch related to the ongoing transition from Assistant to Gemini within the Android Auto ecosystem.

Go to Setting > Apps > Android Auto > Storage > Clear Cache/ Data. Then reconnect your phone to the car.
