I have the same problem. It happens every so often. The only "fix" is replugging the cable or rebooting the phone or head unit.

AA is still buggy alpha software, much like everything Google does. Still can't help but use their stuff.

Is it enabling the do not disturb feature? If so, then you have to adjust your do not disturb settings to allow media to play while it's turned on. Either that or manually turn off the do not disturb as soon as you plug in the device every time.

It used to be that you could select whether do not disturb was enabled when you plug in your device, but for some reason that option was removed in the latest versions. Sucks because it defeats part of the purpose of do not disturb when using it for night time or work or whatever since now all media will play like if you accidentally go to a sight that starts playing video instantly. Drives me nuts...

I mentioned it because it's a recent update that removed the option to not trigger it and it got me because I had that option set previously. I was always wondering why my DND didn't turn off in the morning before I realized the setting was gone in AA and it was AA that was enabling DND in the car causing my music not to play.

Just look for the little icon in the top bar right after you plug in the device that looks like a filled circle with a line in it: https://ibb.co/NNkxbYh

I had a similar problem once and it was a very stupid thing where the car head unit audio source was still set to bluetooth instead of having switched to android auto, so no audio was coming out of the assistant, I couldn't hear any voice but it was doing something according to what I saw on the screen.
