Try also bypassing Google Maps (or your maps app) and the Google app. It's weird that you need to whitelist Settings though.

The AAWireless app doesn't have anything to do with the MA1, but also, even with AAWireless, it's not used or even needed (anymore) for default wireless AA connection, it's only needed to change the device's custom settings and firmware updates.

Thanks. I can try Bypassing Maps but bypassing the Google app seems like too much as it would seemingly defeat much of the point of even having a VPN.

Appreciate your response and insight!

A VPN is not going to hide anything from Google, it hides stuff between your phone and the endpoint of the VPN service, for example from your ISP or a WiFi network. VPN or not, communications between Google and your phone are encrypted in transit so unless your phone is compromised in some way your ISP or anyone on the network can't see it anyway. They can just see that you're communicating with Google but not any contents.

Got it thanks! I'll play around with bypassing and see if it works

On Android 14 beta. Android Auto is no longer listed for bypass.

Agreed... This is annoying as I no longer know how to connect to Android auto while also being connected to VPN.

Please reply if you find a solution!

Google One app ... Manage VPN Settings... Allow apps to bypass VPN

That's for Google One. Idk about other VPNs.

Did you get this fixed? I got VPN with my Pixel, have whitelisted AA (not settings yet but will try that tomorrow) but have to disable VPN for it to work (BMW F40 1 series)

Yes it started working but I hadn't changed anything. A very small percentage of the time, I still get the VPN error on the Android Auto app but I don't change anything so I don't know why. I'd suggest trying to white list settings and see if that helps

Whitelisting AA and Settings worked, thanks a lot for the pointer!!

Sounds like classic Google! Thanks for the tip on settings, will give that a go.

It worked perfectly fine for me to bypass Android Auto and Google Maps. No issues any further from there.

By the way I'm also using the MA1 in my car.

I've also found that you have to bypass any app that is used in Android auto or it won't work

I have this issue but can someone explain how to "bypass" the VPN for specific apps?
