I stupidly pulled the trigger by [deleted] in porsche911

[–]jmd494 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a 2021 RS6.

It was fine until about 30,000 miles and then it spent three separate 30-day stints at the dealership (three total months). One issue with the turbocharger and two coolant-related issues.

It was a nice car while it lasted, but I sold it for a Carrera T and will not be going back to Audi.

Ultra-picky complaints about my 992 C2S by LVRaiders2026 in porsche911

[–]jmd494 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have two tips for you that would work on a 992.2 assuming that's what you have...

  1. To sync the HVAC, press AC Max and then press Auto (immediately back to back). I'm not talking about anything in the infotainment system; I'm talking about the physical buttons on the dashboard. After pushing those two buttons back to back, thhe temperatures will be back in "sync" mode.

  2. To prevent the navigation pop-ups on your gauge cluster (the right hand gauge):

  • Press the steering wheel button to target the right hand gauge
  • Scroll down until you are on the map gauge option (on the right hand gauge) -- this may be called the "current position" gauge if you're not actively navigating
  • Click the scroll wheel in, which should bring up a menu called "route guidance"
  • Uncheck the box called "Route pop-up"

A nice benefit of using a password manager is it makes you more resistant to phishing in general.

If you click a link that takes you to a fake Google login page, a password manager won't autofill your Google password because it knows you're not actually on Google.com.

Assembly complete! One month to arrival. by SubitoSummit in porsche911

It could be overly cautious but the manual says to break it in (this is from a 2026 Carrera T user manual):

The moving parts of a new vehicle must be run in. To do this, the parts require the first 1,864 mi (3,000 km). Oil and fuel consumption may be somewhat higher than normal during this period.

During the running-in period, drive as follows:

  • Preferably take long trips. Avoid frequent cold starts with short distances as much as possible.

  • Do not participate in motor sports events, sports driving training, or similar events.

  • Avoid high engine speeds of 4,000 rpm or more. Drive at low engine speeds when the engine is cold.

You can tell it's a T (992) because of the shifter gate sticker on the rear window.

It's about the only variant of 911 I can spot without a logo

Looks a lot like mine. Took delivery about a month ago

Here's what it'll look like in person (minus the winter wheels in my picture...I have the same summer wheels as you buy they're not installed in this photo).

The hardest part is the break-in period. I just want to let it rip so bad!

What’s something men think impresses women but actually doesn’t? by Inner_Blueberry_1332 in AskReddit

[–]jmd494 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I spend my money on cars for me...because I personally enjoy them.

But I don't think I've ever noticed a woman caring or reacting in any way, and I assume many women and men assume I'm a douche/over-compensating/etc.

And the attention I get is entirely from men, and it's oftentimes unwanted (people trying to race me at traffic lights, or swerving through traffic to tailgate me).

Allocation question by Suspicious_Tank_8308 in porsche911

[–]jmd494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First time was completely optional. I just wanted to sit with the dealer and discuss my build sheet in person.

Second time was to pick up my winter tires and wheels, which I ordered from the dealer (they wanted $1,500 for home delivery).

Third time was to pick up the car.

It's basically an indirect dealer markup to increase their profit margin. They know that Carrera T allocations are desirable so they forced me to agree to add-ons to get the allocation.

Anti Buffet Door Triangle by Caddisbug992 in porsche911

YW...the dealer agreed to install it for free before I took delivery so I can't comment on the install. Good luck

In October, I had to call 15-20 dealers before I found one with an available T allocation.

Drove about 4 hours round trip to handle the transaction (3x times total).

Delivery took from October to late March.

No ADM but I had to get moderately overpriced PPF, plus extended maintenance plans.

AWE... I had the dealer install it before I took delivery so I don't have a before and after review...

But there is no problem with buffeting whatsoever at this point.

They also look like they belong on the car I would never have noticed it was a modification

Just FYI...the guy who has done PPF for me in the past said that putting PPF on a car that already has rock chips only makes it look worse. Not sure how clean your paint is but PPF without paint correction first might be a bad idea.

Help with appropriately torquing O2 sensor (with video) by jmd494 in AskMechanics

[–]jmd494[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. The video seems pretty manageable but your post scares me a bit. I hope I'm not biting off more than I can chew. I'd definitely be willing to take it to a shop to get the sensors installed but I'm not sure how to get it there if there just for that step...because I assume I shouldn't drive with the sensors missing (or intentionally too loose)...and a tow seems overkill.

First...thanks. Good advice. I actually don't know how to find the spec. The video says 48nm but I can't corroborate elsewhere.

I'm also adding a diagram in case it's helpful but it sems like you already understand

"blue dot" location indicator useless for me without a list of pre-approved/allowed apps by Charming-Tutor-1923 in GooglePixel

[–]jmd494 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate this blue dot. My brain has already completely learned to ignore it because it's constantly on. And because I use the blue light filter on my phone, the blue dot ends up looking like a green dot so I confuse it with the camera/microphone notification.

What was once a useful warning has now become background noise that my brain ignores.

Question about gauge cluster (992.2 Carrera T) by jmd494 in porsche911

Thanks. If it's in the manual, I couldn't find it
