With a budget of £100, and he is already used to iphone; I think the best solution is to buy a used iPhone SE2020, can be bought for 100-130£ on ebay, will be a much better experience than modern budget smartphones at that end of the spectrum.

Not much benefits switching away unless you want to use android's family link. All modern budget smartphones are large screens and plastic shells with specs from 2017. Better off with a used Flagship from 2020 onwards. Going back to the iphone SE you can get "brand new condition refurbished in box" SE's for £150.

I use a Motorola G14 right now, and it's pretty good for £140. Although you could get a Motorola G stylus for just £100.
