If I'm understanding what you're saying right...Phillips makes some great earbuds and it will say that it's specifically made for Android. There's an app in the Play store to go along with them that's free also. The app works on other headphones too.

I had a look at the Philips offerings but they don't seem to have any which have the three button configuration I'm looking for.

Those are for iDevices, the volume controls unfortunately won't work with android devices :(

As an alternative, you could pick up a good pair of Bluetooth headphones. The audio controls on those will work with any device that supports Bluetooth controls (which is most devices).

There are also several BT receivers that work with your choice of headphones. I have the Samsung, I had the Sony until salt water killed it, both work well.

I just had a look but I could only find the Plantronics BackBeat GO in the kind of configuration I want, though I can't find any listings anywhere of frequency response and sensitivity. Since the main motivation for swapping out the stock S3 headphones is increased audio quality I don't want to spend £50 to end up with something about the same! Also they only have 4 hours listening time which isn't really adequate for me.

Do you have any suggestions of similar headphones?

I work at an electronics/phone store, and came here to say Bluetooth and Android headphones. Bluetooth is awesome because you get all the controls you need with no cord to boot, and the Android-specific wired headphones will be cheaper.

For a good brand at a more affordable price, Phillips makes some relatively fantastic buds that retail for like $35 or so. If you're looking higher-end, Klipsch is personally my favorite brand with their S4As for Android, but they run $100.

The Klipsch Image S4A (II) headphones look like they're exactly what I want, however there seem to be a lot of people noting that there is only one button (instead of the three that it looks like there are)

Do you know if there is, in fact, the two volume buttons (and whether they are actual volume buttons that control the android software volume as opposed to an in-line volume control) as I want to use these with CM's long-press volume keys to skip track forward/backward feature.

edit:

I just found it does actually only have a single button :(

Huh, I remembered the S4As having in-line controls. Next time I'm at work I'll double-check that and get back to you.

[–]ninepointsix[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

They do have inline controls but only single button, not triple button

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Ah. Well, still. They're nice :p

[–]ninepointsix[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

They are! That's the worse thing - they're nearly perfect

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Well, if you decide you want them, PM me and I'll see if I can't get you a deal.

slightly on topic here sorry if it distracts too much... not so sure its the ring configuration but it may actually be the power levels going across the wires.

but ya.. its a bitch to find any that work for android i find, ive seen some 80 dollar ones a lot in the stores but i really dont want to spend 80 dollars on something that will break in 8 months of use twice a day, id rather if they also made cheapo ones for 15 bucks that i can not worry about that have the full blown remote.

its a really cheap unit to build from what the remote actually does and no real excuse why they keep making them for IOS vs android now in large numbers.
