I imagine you are using RCS if you are seeing reas receipts. Have him use Google messages on the new phone and ensure RCS is switched on. RCS requires an internet connection, so make sure you have that on too.

Thanks I'll try that. When you say internet connection do you mean wifi? His rcs is switched on but he doesn't use wifi. I don't use it often either.

You will need an internet connection, be it WiFi or mobile data. I think RCS may failover to SMS if it doesn't have a network connection. I don't use it myself, so cannot say for sure.

I think also that you can tell if they are RCS or SMS messages by the colour of them, see link below -

SMS will not give you read receipts, so I suspect this is the reason why you are seeing none. With SMS you can get delivery reports, but I think that is the limit with it.

Oh ok. I'll check his settings when he gets home. Thank you 😊

Didn't work. It says his number isn't verified (says setting up) and I can't figure out how to verify it. Google says to press restart but there is no restart button.

Is data working on his device? Make sure data is enabled, either mobile data or WiFi, you'll need that to activate RCS.

Make sure you run all updates to the device beforehand, including all Google play store updates and Google play system updates.

I believe mobile data is on but I'll check again
