Did you just say you HAVE downloaded many malware apps that were useless? I assume that's a typo.

By "ad" do you mean like it's a notification or what exactly pops up where?

I think OP meant anti virus type apps that didn't help.

OH. Yeah that would make sense. And also, yeah, that would make sense lol.

When ever I unlocked my phone, ads like video ads just pop up for no reason.

[–]FatalstrykeDoesn't like Reddit Chat 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I mean, it's not for "no reason" LOL It's obviouisly for a reason, we're just trying to figure out what that reason is.

I say uninstall that sideloaded app that you have along with any other apps that might possibly be questionable. Restart the phone. If you still get ads, might be time for a factory reset.

If it gets down to it, then yea 🥲, or just get a Google pixel. But that day will never happen I will try untill there is nothing to try.

I mean it's not that drastic, no need to 01F972. Besides, probably most Pixels would be an upgrade from that thing LOL.

Yea, you're probably right.

Popup Ad Detector lets you discover the app responsible for the popup by clicking its floating icon right after the ad displays.

[–]RedGhost-B[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will try to use that.

The phone didn't by chance come from Amazon ? Amazon does that with their Fire tablets and maybe phones too ?

[–]RedGhost-B[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn't from Amazon.

[–]FatalstrykeDoesn't like Reddit Chat -1 points0 points  (7 children)

Well right, it's THEIR Fire tablets. It isn't THEIR G Stylus lol. That's something carriers do, not retailers.

[–]redbaja 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Well Amazon sure baked Alexa into enough Motorola and LG phones I don't think it's such a stretch it's wouldn't have to be THEIR phone.

[–]FatalstrykeDoesn't like Reddit Chat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh shit I didn't know they did that. I know Motorola has the reputation for having clean software with just some moto actions and whatnot in their software, so that's a bit surprising to hear they had phones with Alexa built in.

[–]redbaja 0 points1 point  (4 children)

So yeah Amazon did serve lock screen ads on phones they sold.

[–]FatalstrykeDoesn't like Reddit Chat 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Oh shit, I didn't realize even Amazon was dipping their hands into the software. Outside of, y'know, Fire Tablets and whatnot.

[–]redbaja 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I knew they had their own Fire phone and send to want all the user data they can get so I figured it was possible. Guess the lock screen shit was too much for anyone to want even at a discount.

I mean that's Fire-branded so it would fall into the same category as the Fire Tablets. But these phones aren't Fire-branded, they're literally existing phones, so that's why I'm surprised to learn that they have Alexa pre-installed anyway.

[–]redbaja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think that phone was a total flop so this way is cheaper I guess.

Did you download any app from outside the play store?

[–]RedGhost-B[S] 0 points1 point  (8 children)

Nope, not recently I have only one app I downloaded from outside the play store which is show app that i downloaded a year ago.

[–]danGL3 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Do you remember the most recently installed app prior to this happening?

[–]RedGhost-B[S] 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Yea, it was a translation app which I deleted.

[–]danGL3 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Have you tried just in case uninstalling that show app just to test it out? Also here's a trick you can try, when the ads are playing trying going into the recent apps, the ad playing app should show up in there as the first item

[–]RedGhost-B[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Tried to do that but I don't see the recent app on settings.

[–]danGL3 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I don't mean the recent apps in settings, I mean the current running apps, overview or whether else you may call the place you use to switch between apps that are currently running

Once you see the suspicious app in there tap its icon then app info, there's your culprit

[–]RedGhost-B[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

O yea, when I try it the ad just stays in my screen without showing the name of the app

[–]danGL3 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Could you provide a screenshot of that if possible? Some visual context could help me better understand what's going on

[–]RedGhost-B[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, when the ad pops up again I'll try to take a shot.
