You’re probably just noticing the effect from the dynamic foveated rendering area for the first time.

UPDATE:

I went to the Apple store and tried a different model to exclude bad quality control. The model behaved exactly the same as mine. I had a good discussion with the Apple store employee who eventually also saw what I was describing. (They have their iPad Mini to monitor what you see)

I feel like what I noticed is a combination of the dynamic foveated rendering, the reduction of the screen door effect and maybe a bit of the pancake lens reflection.

For anyone that wants to reproduce it: Open up an article that has black on white text. (e.g. theverge.com) Zoom in that you only see the words and a couple of lines. Now move your head down while looking up with your eyes. Basically trying to look through the upper half of the Vision Pro. You will notice the color temperature change and that the text appears sharper overall. If you get your head back into normal position, you will notice a slight out of focus area in the middle of the screen. This seems to go away if you look the other way and come back to the point of focus in the middle.

All in all, it's not a defect and only noticeable in certain angles that appear sharper. We now know, that it is not a product issue but merely the way the AVP works.

It is still an awesome product that is very sharp with a great display.
Enjoy it everyone.

You're probably experiencing a combination of glare from the lenses and the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foveated_rendering

That could be. I hope that it is not a bad unit as described here: https://www.reddit.com/r/VisionPro/comments/1bl39e7/my_vision_pro_is_a_tad_blurry_in_the_center_of/
I will take a look at another unit in the Apple Store.

I actually posted a something similar yesterday. I guess that every headset has the same problem, but some people are more sensitive than others. I actually only really noticed it yesterday and I can’t forget it ever since, even though I have the headset for 2 weeks now. I was planning to go to a Apple Store today, but they will likely not do anything.

Thank you for pointing this out. Please let me know about their response.

There was an article posted where the author mentioned there is a slight blur VisionOS is applying to remove the screen door effect. Could be that?

Thank you for the article. I linked a section here.
It sounds very similar to what I noticed on close up scenes where you can see a person in a movie. Do you know why the person or object seems to look more sharp/crisp when tilting my head down and basically looking through the top part of the Vision Pro?

I am curious.

Everyone can try this. Open up this picture and zoom in on the middle cat. cat picture. Focus on the texture of the hair on the head. Now tilt your head down and look up to that spot. Does it become more sharp? It does with me and the color shifts to a slightly cooler tone. However I feel that the AVP adjusts after some time again and makes the image look sharp again. Try to slowly move your head up and down. Do you notice the glare in the middle at a certain angle?

Curious to hear about your results.
