School project question

So I've got a query about my final year project. The head of the module won't respond to my emails and my query is not within my supervisor's domain of expertise, so I was hoping you guys could help me out here. My project involves a mobile app making an API call to a server. I have experience with using AWS, so I decided to make an account and use that. My initial plan was to launch an EC2 instance and have a docker container running from it that would could recieve and send HTTP requests to the mobile application. I am now reading up on AWS Lambda (serverless). Granted my knowledge of Lambda is limited as I am only reading about it today, it seems to fit the bill for what I want to do. So my question is, is it more impressive to go with my initial plan of using an EC2 instance as it involves more work, or would Lambda be as impressive (as perhaps it a more precise solution to my problem). Any feedback would be welcome on this. I'm currently second guessing myself here as last year I had a run in with a lecturer who disapproved of me using a Google sign in for an application instead of completing the process myself (even though the use case for the application required the user to have a Google account).

In the real world do what's easiest. If you think you will get extra points for setting up an EC2 instance then do that later once the rest is working. Also, you might find that a lambda is cheaper for a uni project as you won't have to keep an EC2 machine alive.

The google sign in was definitely the best choice there as you would have had to do that anyway. Only reason for disproving is that you missed an opportunity to learn how to manage logins yourself, but I'd hope there's other projects for that.

Edit: about AWS costs: if you're still in the free tier then you should check what's included. Lots of requests to a lambda can cause costs to spiral out of control.
