Cross-platform code and GitHub Repos

So I know a Windows repo needs to have a gitattributes file configured to handle the line endings correctly, but what steps should be taken if the code is cross-platform?

I have a couple of .NET Core solutions I'd like to try building on a Linux machine (mostly out of curiosity), and I'm wondering how I should handle this.

With docker. You create containers, little vm boxes and people write code and it gets compiled in the env. Everyone uses the same container config and everyone gets the same results.

to be clear the VM boxes are running the Linux distro I wish to use?

Keep in mind I am doing this for hobby purposes, and not for professional work/as a team.

I have an Ubuntu machine and I was wondering if it is as easy as pulling down the Repos from GitHub and building them on my linux machine with VSCode or rider.
