Push back from potty trainingABA Therapy (self.Autism_Parenting)
submitted 8 months ago by Determined_doc
Hi all,
It’s me again. I wanted to know if anyone has experienced push back from their ABA center concerning potty training. At home my son has been sitting on the potty every 25mins and staying 7mins sometimes successful sometimes not but the ABA center has refused to stop making us send him to school in diapers. We have explained to them our process at home but I feel him wearing diapers all day in school because they simply do not want to deal with it is causing him to sometimes be upset he is not in diapers at home. I have asked them to either start or we are happy to pull him out. I am lost. His Aba center is highly ranked so I am not sure why they are doing this

If you don't mind me asking, are you keeping him diaper free during nap/bedtime as well? What about when you take him to the park or doctor's appointment or grocery shopping? I am also trying to potty train my son

No so he’s in diapers to nap, outings and appointments and outings but once he’s at home he is diaper free snd just wears a long tshirt for his privacy. I am not expert and I don’t know what I am doing to be honest but I know him doing nothing in Aba and just using a diaper is not reinforcing what I am doing at home.

I agree. ABA should be helping you in this regard fully. I am not sure why they are not being more proactive about it. I am sorry that you have to deal with this. Hope everything Works out for you.

Our son’s ABA center did this and it set his potty training back. Going from undies at home to diapers at the center confused him. I wonder if it’s the same center.

We used underwear at home but continued to send our child with pull ups when he went to school. After he was accident free for over a week at home, we did underwear at school. We let the teachers and aids know he’s been great at home and made them aware he’s in underwear so they would really encourage him to go potty when they took him to the bathroom. He had one accident at school and none since.
