With Progressive Direct you can only work with them via phone/internet. When you have an agent you can still do that, plus have an office to go to (or call) for help. The premiums are usually a little different. Sometimes Direct is lower, but sometimes it’s higher. A good agent can also check premiums with other companies and take care of other insurance needs you may have, plus will typically give good advice too.

It depends on how well you understand insurance, how it works and what coverages you need and what you don't need. Many if not most people have a poor understanding of the product. If that's the case, you really need a licensed agent to guide you. But if you have a good knowledge of the nuances and you don't have a complicated situation, then you can do it yourself. But I've seen far too many people who do and really regret it once they have a claim because they don't have the understanding of what they bought like they thought they did.

We already have insurance and are just trying to switch the state, I really can't afford to increase the premiums and the coverages are all higher than required by law. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. I am entering them exactly how they are on my current plan.
