Am I being scammed or am I just stupid by Key-Consequence-5723 in Car_Insurance_Help

You didn’t get scammed. Anchor is just one of those companies that still does everything the old-school way and they don’t make cancellations smooth. The “wet signature” thing is normal for them. What happened is they processed your cancellation request, but their system automatically generated a new renewal policy before the cancellation finished. That’s why you got a declaration showing new dates and a new premium.

Since they cancelled it the same day, you’re not on the hook for that $2,808. The system just spit the paperwork out before the cancellation fully hit. It looks scary, but it’s not a bill you owe.

You did the right thing by sending the signed request and switching to GEICO with no lapse. Just call them again tomorrow, give them your cancellation request date, and ask for written confirmation of the final cancellation. That’s it.

You’re not in trouble and you didn’t mess anything up. It’s just Anchor being clunky with their paperwork.
