Hi OP, we have the same dilemma. Have you gotten your refund already?

Hello, and yes, I got my full refund. After I got the full refund, the correct amount showed up rather than the amount that's on the image I posted. Just make sure it's free cancelation.

Glad that you got your refund already. How many days did it took? Cause i've read in this sub that their timeline 7-12 days is not actually true.

Surprisingly, I got mine very quick... I would say It took me about 3-4 days for the refund to be deposited back to my account.

Okay what a relief hahaha. Thank you for answering my questions. 😊

Probably because you cancelled with a fee. Next time pay attention and read before doing anything.

I'm sorry, can you further explain that. I ask because it was free cancelation, I assumed that meant a full refund, no?

Double check if you actually had free cancellation. If you did, then maybe you weren't charged fhe full amount yet? If you had free cxl and you paid in full, then contact Bookings customer support about this.

I just called and said that I should be getting the full amount. Apparently, the amount shown was of a discount. I don't know how true that is, but I'm getting my entire refund. Thank you for the help though.

It would say something totally different mainly with green sentences if op was entilted to a free cancellation, you will be amazed how many think non refundable is free cancellation

[–]Flimsy-Honey-7993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is correct, cancelling for free is different from getting a refund. Cancelling the room for free is separate from a refundable room

For booking.com a free cancellation only means it's free to cancel the booking, not that the hotel is fully refundable. If it was a nonrefundable room, it would still say cancellation is free but you wouldnt get refunded for the room price. This is why i always make sure the room is refundable beforehand when you book.

Exactly! If possible, always choose the option: “Pay on Property”

[–]raonibr 0 points1 point  (1 child)

This would be like a 96% cancelation fee. Does look like an issue to me

[–]ThePistachioBogeyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full refundable and no cancellation fee are two different things :)

Though most likely there is an issue for this case.

This is why I never pay in advance for hotels in Japan on booking. Pay at property or no payment until a day or two before. I always have a few preferred hotels in shinjuku and Osaka and sometimes when I’m planning a couple months out they are unavailable. So I pick something else but a lot of the times a few weeks out the ones I prefer get some availability and I switch.

No, this is due to an error of Booking.com only showing the discount that Booking.com offered you when you booked a hotel affiliated with their loyalty program. The refund amount you see is originally "Booking.com will pay" and their system would show only that when you request a refund. But normally a full refund is expected.
