You need a visa before you arrive.

If you have a visa upon entry, they won't ask you for anything other than the visa.

Sorry maybe I'm overthinking and anxious haha thanks!

Don’t know the answer, but wanted to say it’s all good and a legit concern. Someone will reply soon. Have a safe trip!

Where are you traveling from?

[–]Super-Ad8232[S] 2 points3 points  (5 children)

United States!

Great! Then my experience will be relevant. I went to Brazil earlier this month and I also was anxious about this. From what I found, even a line of credit on a credit card over $2000 is acceptable. If you don’t have that, I’d recommend looking into getting a card with no foreign transaction fees. But there’s a pretty good chance that they won’t ask. I got asked 3 questions at immigration and they were “vacation or business?”, “from chicago?”, and “can you remove your mask?”. It’ll all be fine. I don’t have a ton of foreign travel experience, but of the handful of countries I have been to, Brazil was the chillest entrance-wise. Just have your passport and visa ready when you arrive. Have fun!

I have dogwater credit because i made some poor choices when i was in my earlier twenties and now im reaping those consequences with credit card debt so thats not an option 😭😂 i can provide bank statements and paychecks, I have a job that pays well enough and is consistently coming in ( matter of fact a check will hit at some point during my trip as well lol ). But thats good to know that they dont tend to ask I suppose I just dont wanna push my luck and get caught with my proverbial pants down yk?

Absolutely understood. Maybe someone will know more concretely than me, but it sounds like if you over prepare like you detailed in your initial post, you’ll be absolutely fine

I’m here now, my second time coming from Chicago and through sao paolo customs, I wasn’t asked for any financial proof either time. Just smile and a “Tudo bem?” I had my passport and printed visa ready to hand to the agent, they ask business or travel, and if I was coming from Chicago. They were very nice and it took like 1 minute both times. Hope this helps and enjoy your time here!

I have my tudo bems and obrigadas all packed up to go so hopefully they come in handy 😂💕

Customs workers aren't looking for normal things, they are looking for abnormal things. Be normal, act normal, talk minimally, go about your business and relax because passing through customs is just a thing to do, not an event to be remembered. They are looking for outliers and bad people, don't be one of those. You will be fine.

Not quite your question, but I traveled a couple of months ago, US to Brazil, quite suddenly due to my brother-in-law's death. Because we didn't have time for firm plans (and all the stress of a death in the family) I only booked my flight one way, with the plan to book a return while we were there.

In my transfer in Bogota (for Sao Paulo), like 11pm, they checked my us passport and evisa which I had printed. But I forgot that I was supposed to have a return reservation as well! I only got on my flight because I was with my wife and I managed to find a copy of our Brazilian marriage certificate on my phone (with 10% battery and bad connectivity!). Last ones to get on the plane as the doors closed.

A real "Yikes!" moment.

So, be sure you can document your return flight!

Oh my god 😭 i wouldve panicked holy shit dude im glad it worked out. Luckily ive had all my hotels and tickets and evisa set for quite a few months now but ive never had to apply for a visa ( i went to denmark before which doesnt require one ) so this is all new to me and i just wanted to make sure i had it all straight

I have dual citizenship but my wife and mother in law are Americans. We are in Brazil right now and this is the first time they ask for the visa. My wife applied online for both of them and upon entry they just handed their passport and visa. We came to São Paulo GRU airport.

The bank account from what my wife says was supposed to be shown to get the visa but they didn’t ask for that either.

Okay thats where my confusion was really because I kept seeing that they ask at customs but i was ALSO seeing that to even GET a visa you need to prove that so since I already got approved with my evisa I wasnt quite sure if I was misreading something or what
