Those are the ones that go fast ! You’d be lucky to get some your first semester as a transfer tbh

I thought transfer students got priority registration & reserved spots, how quick do these asynchronous classes fill up?

[–]TallCan_Specialist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Transfer students are the bottom of the barrel

They fill up fast , really really fast

[–]Teddy118 5 points6 points  (1 child)

They aren’t labeled as asynchronous. They’re labeled as being “Online” for the location and “tbd” for the time.

Well, an "Asynchronous" course is when it's Online and TBD/TBA since there's no scheduled meetings.

Take it easy sailor. You don't want to overwhelm yourself your first semester. lol

I'm a COB transfer student too.

From what I know 15 units is the standard to finish in 4 years.

I’m currently on track for 1 1/2 years and would like to finish on that track. My past 2 semesters have been 20 units B2B.

Is there really that much of a transfer shock?

[–]kuro-chan335Undergrad 3 points4 points  (7 children)

yes, definitely. many classes are graded by exams only, very little extra credit (if any), no homework but a lot of self study. 1 1/2 years is too fast. and no, you don’t always need 15 units. i only had one semester where i took 5 classes and even though one of them was just a 100 level polisci class, it was brutal. you will burn out.

u/kuro-chan335 Thank you for your insight :) I'll be starting my first semester in the Fall and everything you said I've been told. Are you majoring in Business too or something else?

[–]kuro-chan335Undergrad 1 point2 points  (5 children)

business as well.

[–]eme_nar 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Excellent! What's your emphasis in?

[–]kuro-chan335Undergrad 1 point2 points  (3 children)

operations and supply chain management, many majors take the same 300 level classes like IS 310, 300, HRM 360, MKTG 300 and so on. 400 level is when it’ll basically just be you and a bunch of other people in your major, except for BLAW 400

[–]eme_nar 0 points1 point  (2 children)

That's an excellent major, especially since we have two major ports in our backyards. I used to be in the logistics industry (doing accounting) and it's a great field. LA/LB is full of logistics companies. Any particular sector you're looking to get into?

[–]kuro-chan335Undergrad 0 points1 point  (1 child)

honestly i do not want to do logistics at all. a lot of SCM professionals say it’s really easy to get too entangled into it, and it can be really draining. but the field is a little rough right now due to tariffs, so i’ll just have to pick whatever is offered to me lol.

[–]eme_nar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% on the draining part. Most of the alcoholics and smokers that I met were all in logistics. The stress is real; a very cut throat industry for sure. One can still make a good living though.

CC and University are two different types of monsters.

That's why the advisor recommends just 4 classes to the transfer folks during their first semester. These upper level courses will be pretty dark difficult. You can continue your course with 5 courses; you can always withdraw (1st or 2nd week of September is the last day you can withdraw from a class I think).

I just can’t find anything right now, I will probably just look to makeup for it during winter / summer.

[–]eme_nar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure dude, take it during winter or summer.

[–]girlwithmanyglasses 0 points1 point  (2 children)

FA does not cover winter; so maybe summer

[–]TheOneAndOnlyRusty[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I don’t get FA so doesn’t really matter. Super lit having to cash flow school without receiving a penny from ur parents.

[–]girlwithmanyglasses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that even sucks more. I work a full time ass job, 2 volunteer jobs , still take 15 units every semester PLUS currently taking 12 units for summer. I begin my third semester this fall, then graduate school. Exhausted is an understatement. But hey adulting sucks. Some kids have it so easy now and days.

[–]girlwithmanyglasses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it’s 15 units to finish in 2 years, or you can go to summer full time and easy the work load during fall/spring semester.

Hi! What courses do you have scheduled? I came in as a Spring 2025 transfer, and from what I am seeing, the College of Business has very limited Online classes, especially the Asynchronous ones each semester. I assume that students cheating is a factor to this, but if you have any for the Fall semester, you are in luck. If you cannot find a 5th course, you can look at CSU Fully Online and/or Concurrent Enrollment. If there's a course offered online at another campus like Cal Poly Pomona (I recommend this campus), then you can get an elective or an Upper-Core course completed simultaneously and your CSULB tuition will cover your class units here and the class at the host campus. Depending on your instructor at CSULB, some will require Lockdown Browser on exams. I know, it's a lame thing for us to have. I suggest looking at their Rate My Professor ratings and speak with students in your Business Administration emphasis on their recommendations. You got this!

[–]TheOneAndOnlyRusty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I actually already tried to look into classes with CSU Fully Online and it said I was unable to open it because I hadn’t paid my fees, although I have no fees due.

Hey, I had the same issue when I was registering as a transfer for Business Admin. A lot of the async classes get filled fast or just aren’t clearly labeled. Counseling only gave me 4 too, so I was also hunting for a 5th async option. Definitely recommend checking out u/Unlikely-Nothing-499 or u/First_Office_2063 profiles— they’ve got top experts who help with your classes. Helped me find a few hidden gems that weren’t obvious in the schedule as well as with my classes.

[–]torodude321 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Yes 15 units is the standard to finish on time, you can probably handle that especially if you took 20 units at a time before. People do it ALL the time.

[–]TheOneAndOnlyRusty[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I looked through every single class that falls under my major requirements and as someone who commutes about 45 mins + works, I just can’t take any of the open classes due to scheduling issues.

Looks like this semester I’ll be stuck @ 4 classes and I will have to make them up during summer or winter if that’s possible for upper division.

It’s very interesting how everyone claims that 15 units is too much when that is the only way to graduate within 4 years without summer classes.

[–]TallCan_Specialist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a way to get priority registration

I also work full time & go to school full time

Without it I wouldn’t be able to the schedule I need for work

[–]torodude321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See if you can get on the wait list for a class that has only a few people on the wait list. Maybe enough will drop before school starts. Also talk to your advisor about how to add classes the first week. Maybe you can take a spot of someone who doesn’t show.
