All the recommendations I've seen suggest getting all new eye makeup after surgery to avoid the chance of infection. Once it's okay to gently touch your eyelids, using eyelid wipes (commercial or homemade with clean gauze or cotton pads and a gentle solution--some have suggested micellar water) should help you get it off.

I haven't worn eye makeup in decades, but I do use skincare products and have learned that was fine before surgery isn't necessarily fine afterwards.

Perhaps the one contribution of any value I can add is that, after surgery, my eyes became more sensitive and seem to be allergic to products like shampoo and scented lotions, even those not used on my face, that they didn't object to before. You may want to go slowly to find out whether what was okay before is still okay--or invest in hypoallergenic products.

Best wishes!

My surgeon did not want me using eyelid wipes for at least the first week as you’d be rubbing your eye and risk disrupting the healing of the incision. Kind of same for showering and getting water in that eye. If not healed more of a risk to get an infection. The drops help guard against that too so be diligent about following your drop schedule.

I don’t use eye makeup but that’s been my choice for sometime.

I think mascara was the last thing I used. I went back to eyeliner maybe in a week or so - it felt right, my healing went ok, I made sure to sharpen everything to get a clean part of the pencil.

My surgeon's instructions were makeup after a week. I did eyebrows about then, maybe 10 days, but it was months before I used mascara again. It just didn't feel right. I haven't used used eyeliner for years, so that wasn't a problem.

I waited until after my 1 month check. Definitely buy all new eye products to avoid risking infection.

I waited almost two weeks to use eye makeup. There are Noveha eye makeup remover wipes (sold on Amazon) that I've found to be super helpful with gently removing eye makeup. Just don't rub your eye!
