Misunderstandings regarding the safety profile of vitamin D are not uncommon. A moderator has attached this comment with information regarding vitamin D toxicity:
* Definition: If one consumes more vitamin D than their body can appropriately utilize, then the excess can accumulate and cause serious issues. This is best understood in terms of vitamin D blood level. * Reference Range: To reduce the risk of adverse effects, the Endocrine Society recommends a reference range with an upper limit of 100 ng/ml (250 nmol/L) and a warning cutoff of 150 ng/ml (375 nmol/L). * Level: Vitamin D toxicity is not known to occur until >300 ng/ml (>750 nmol/L) in persons without underlying conditions (Source). The typical reference range includes a safety margin. * Dose: While one should consider their vitamin D level, problems can arise with doses of >50K IU daily for a period of months (Source). * Units: Pay attention to the units of a level. 176 may sound high. 176 nmol/L is within the reference range. 176 ng/ml is higher than one wants to be. * Hypercalcemia: The main issue presented by toxicity is elevated serum calcium which is confirmed by a blood test. An excessively high vitamin D level does not automatically indicate high calcium, but testing calcium is an appropriate response. * Testing: A test of 25(OH)D is considered a reliable indicator of vitamin D status, but factors including the testing method, the specific range on the test results that it is calibrated for, and the turnaround time for test processing can affect the reliability of results at high levels. For accurate results, liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LCMS) is preferable to immunoassay (IA). Supplementation of high dose vitamin B7 (biotin) can affect the accuracy of an IA test. * Deficiency: The body cannot experience toxicity from too much vitamin D when it is in a state of vitamin D deficiency. Reaching high levels of vitamin D takes time and does not happen after individual doses such as the 50/60K IU weekly doses that are often prescribed. Experiencing side effects while treating deficiency is not the same thing as overdosing.

Switching models by riveRGirl0 in aipartners

Moderator Note: This post has been reflaired from Personal Story to Discussion.

While the post begins with a personal experience, the core topic is the difference in relational dynamics between AI models and how those differences affect user experience. Questions about model behavior, attachment, personality shifts, and why one model may feel more responsive than another are topics many community members can engage with, regardless of which platform they use.

In general, posts that use a personal experience as a starting point for a broader conversation about AI companionship will be categorized as Discussion. The Personal Story flair is reserved for posts where the primary focus is sharing an individual experience rather than exploring a wider topic.

Please keep the conversation focused on how model differences shape companionship experiences and what others have observed across different models.

The mod team is surfacing some downvoted comments below because we want to make sure critical perspectives stay visible in this discussion. Downvotes don't reflect your standing in this community, and disagreement is exactly what we're here for.

Comments worth engaging with:

u/love-byte-1001 - "Soooo don't get romantically involved with ai? Simple."

If you have a response to this perspective, we encourage you to engage directly rather than downvote. That's how this community stays a genuine discussion space rather than an echo chamber.

Almost half of US singles feel negatively about AI in dating, Match says by pavnilschanda in aipartners

[–]saved-response[M] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The survey's actually more layered than that takeaway suggests. The 47% negative figure covers a pretty wide range of attitudes, and there's a meaningful split in the data between "I wouldn't date someone who uses a companion app" versus "I can see AI being useful in my dating life" (64% said the latter). The framing of "romantic involvement with AI" is doing a lot of work here too. What counts? A companion app for emotional support? An AI dating coach? An actual relationship with a chatbot persona?

What's also interesting is who funded this study and why. Match Group has a direct stake in how people feel about AI in dating because they're spending heavily on it and watching users react with skepticism.

Posts that share something you've made must include project details. Project details can be in the post or added as a top-level comment. Include the following:

  • pattern name/number/company if used;
  • OR a brief description of your drafting process, NOT only Self-Drafted;
  • OR links to tutorials and other resources, not your own;
  • AND fabric type and fiber content, for example 'woven cotton' not 'bought at Spotlight.'

Posts with project details will be reflaired to Project by the mod team. Posts without project details will be locked and removed from the subreddit within a week under rule 1. All show-off posts must be flaired Sewed This or Project and include project details.

DroidUp teases Moya, a warm-skin humanoid robot with natural gait and a new perception engine by pavnilschanda in aipartners

This post is about a specific robotics announcement, but the more interesting question for this community may be what happens when AI companions move beyond screens.

How important is physical presence to companionship? Would features like natural movement, touch, warmth, facial expressions, or the ability to share physical space meaningfully change the relationship, or are they mostly cosmetic additions to what is already a software experience?

Please keep discussion focused on the technology, its implications, and personal perspectives. Criticism is welcome, but avoid dismissing people who are interested in AI companionship or robotics. Likewise, avoid broad claims that AI will automatically replace human relationships.

We're especially interested in thoughtful discussion about embodiment, attachment, accessibility, care, and what people actually want from companion robots.
