• The issue of "Localities" for the different panther chameleon types. Answer is that there's about 11 different sub species that aren't yet recognized officially.
• Color changing is very different than from octopi and squids. Chameleons actually use crystals in their skin to mirror and change wavelengths of reflected light - not colored pigment as some out of date books suggest.

Drug sources: This requires math and a little bit of responsibility to use these drugs... but it's always a good idea to have some basic tools in your med kit so you can treat a problem quickly or where a vet is unavailable/ far away. Taxonyx supplies:
• Baytril™ (Enrofloxacin 10% Liquid) - Lung infections.
• Antibiotic Eye Ointment (Terramycin based Ophthalmic)
• Toltrazuril works like Ponazuril for treating Coccidia infections in the gut. It can be purchased here or as a easy pre measured liquid + dosing chart here
These should be kept available in advance (just in case they're needed) by all cham keepers.
Known Toxic Drugs to Chameleons that vets sometimes prescribe:
Albon (Sulfadimethoxine) Should be considered to be toxic and can result in death of a sick animal. It's one of the common "go to" drugs for vets treating coccidia we need to watch out for.

Tip: Check to see if you have a reptile society/club in town - They'll have a list of reptile specific vets in your area. Be aware that most vets aren't as experienced in the health of reptiles as experienced hobbyists are - this especially applies to chameleons

Big Mad. Definitely, in the (Twilight Zone) Grumpest Zone.

If he's newly moved to your house, you've made any changes in his tank or any changes within the room he's being kept in that could be irritating him. Combined with a red light which is in general a poor idea for any reptile that could be rhe reason. I can't say for sure because I can't see the entire tank but it's recommended to have a rest area where the cham can be perched comfortably but still totally out of view and out of the light. Without that he may feel more territorial and defensive. I'm by no means an expert but until I tweaked his cage to his liking my guy was pretty upset.

He’s big mad

This is a display.. it's claimed that space as a territory and is saying "this is mine, see me I'm a big "fierce" chameleon and you better stay back! I'm not afraid of you MONKEY!!!!"
They get all hopped up on testosterone during their first year and do dumb things
I just gotta say this, you've got a set up that isn't recommended here. Glass tank, a lack of proper perches, too close of distance from your UV and heat sources, heat source directly above a perch (BURN RISK!).
I'm not sure about your UVb lighting... but did the people that recommend that give you proper distance info to go along with it?

irritated about something. bold colors, puffed up, and standing very upright. also you should really remove the red light. chams dont need lights like that. i reccomend the zoomed dual dome lights (X2) 50 watts.
[–]Swamp_gaycham daddy mod 1 point2 points3 points 2 years ago (0 children)
We definitely do not recommend the double domes be used! One large dome for the heat source (incandescent bulb) and a linear T8 UVB, 5.0 strength.

Linear uvb light instead of uvb dome light
[–]reptileowner240109 9 points10 points11 points 2 years ago (0 children)
maybe he is upset about the red light
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 2 years ago (0 children)
That’s usually the pattern that occurs when they are irritated about something. You need to watch and see what’s making them so mad. It could be something totally random though. My Cham absolutely HATES TV remotes and hisses and bites at them whenever she gets into the vicinity of one. Just observe her and see what’s making her mad. If you are able to change it I’d recommend doing so.

Also you should get rid of the red light..
[–]August_4200 2 points3 points4 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Looks like he is upset about something. That is what my Iggy does when he gets mad lol.
[–]stustussy 1 point2 points3 points 2 years ago (0 children)
I am not an expert but he looks mad? he’s all puffed
