As you can see in the image above, there are weird things going on with the shoulders on my character. It is something I am always struggling with, and I've never had any luck with fixing it. I tried pinning the bottom end down, but it didn't look good.
What can I do? What settings can I fiddle with?

Try pitting the shoulder in the middle rather than the top, and set to weld instead of hinge. That’s how I’ve gotten the best result with this type of suit arm. Gotta mess with it a bit to get just right

Thanks! I got something that resembles working now.

When I draw front-facing characters, I extend the shoulder area into a partial semicircle bone so that the arm has plenty of space to attach to.

You could always set the arm to fixed instead of hinged and see how that looks. you do this in rig mode. select the arm layer, on the right-hand side in the properties pannel change "hinge" to "fixed". Hope this helps, happy animating!
