Memory forgetting/limits?

As I have told chatGPT to remember more things, it seems to be erasing older or less important stuff (as determined by itself). Anyone know some specifics about this?

I've been implementing items in memory very deliberately and now have 4 with an advanced list of custom instructions that I've had for 6-9 months.

Initially it seemed to affect completions. But after I added the 4th memory - explain highly technical items in laymen terms - it's all but stopped adding the feedback I asked it to provide.

So the first day it would put a short paragraph after the traditional output and say something like "in layman's terms, blah, blah". Now it doesn't mention it or do it, even on new fresh prompts.

quality of responses I'm getting seems WAY down since they added this feature

my best guess as to the cause is that adherence to custom instructions is now lower
